Job description

This position responds to and analyzes requests and authorizations for compliance with federal and state guidelines. Serves as an internal release of information and record retention specialist and works with the external copy service and legal department to assure information is released appropriately.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Serves as an internal HIM release of information specialist and works with the Compliance and Legal departments to assure that patient information is released appropriately.
  • Exhibits working knowledge and stays abreast of the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, CMS, Federal/State laws governing chart completion and the healthcare organizations information privacy practices.
  • Keeps current with ongoing or new legislative issues related to chart completion and documentation requirements.
  • Runs monthly reports, tracks and trends the release of information requests to project future departmental growth.
  • Exhibits knowledge of the Meaningful Use and the EHR incentive program. Works with interdisciplinary team to meet the standards established by CMS.
  • Reviews and verifies authorizations for compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
  • Promotes professional teamwork and collaborates with LH departments to build an efficient and compliant ROI team.
  • Applies regulatory requirements to facilitate organizational compliance on ROI requests received.
  • Advises leadership of release of information issues and record retention issues and works and works with stakeholders on issues of concern or risk.
  • Oversees the patient's right to inspect and amend their records and restricts access to PHI per department procedures.
  • Assists in the development and standardization of an organization-wide ROI program to ensure compliance with regulatory, retention and policy guidelines.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership., Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed.
  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed., * 3+ years of experience with Health Information Management (HIM).
  • Experience working in a Release of Information (ROI) function
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of HIM processes in an electronic health record environment.
