The Network Engineer I will support the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of customer and internal network environments. Responsibilities include:
- Support Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing configurations, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Assist with firewall configuration, policy updates, basic rule management, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot customer network issues involving LAN, WAN, internet, transport, wireless, and telecommunications services.
- Serve as a customer-facing technical resource during service turn-ups, outages, escalations, and support events.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical customers, technical vendors, service providers, and internal engineering teams.
- Translate customer-reported issues into actionable technical troubleshooting steps.
- Coordinate with vendors and carriers to identify, escalate, and resolve service-impacting issues.
- Participate in network installations, upgrades, service activations, and field support activities.
- Travel from Anchorage to rural Alaska communities as required for day trips or short-duration field assignments.
- Document network configurations, troubleshooting steps, customer environments, and resolution notes.
- Support after-hours or urgent response needs as required by customer or operational demands.
- Maintain a professional, solutions-oriented presence when interacting with customers and partners.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Vendor communication?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Candidates must be US Citizens and currently reside in Anchorage, Alaska. Must pass a background and drug test.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working across both technical and non-technical environments. This person should be able to troubleshoot network issues, communicate clearly with customers, coordinate with vendors, and support network operations in both urban and rural Alaska environments.
This is a role for someone who wants to be trusted by the customer, solve problems in the field, and become a reliable technical resource for the organization., Qualified candidates should have a practical technical background and strong communication skills. We are looking for someone with:
- 2-3 years of experience as a field technician, network technician, telecommunications technician, or similar hands-on technical role.
- 1-2 years of experience as a network engineer, network administrator, systems/network technician, or similar role.
- Working knowledge of Layer 2 switching, including VLANs, trunking, access ports, spanning tree concepts, and switch troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Layer 3 routing, including IP addressing, static routing, dynamic routing concepts, subnets, gateways, and route troubleshooting.
- Basic firewall configuration and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience troubleshooting customer connectivity issues in real-world environments.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical vendors, carriers, and engineering teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel to rural Alaska as needed.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel by commercial air, small aircraft, vehicle, or other regional transportation as required.
- Ability to work in-office in Anchorage, Alaska.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Experience with telecommunications, broadband, ISP, MSP, or carrier environments.
- Experience supporting rural, remote, or field-based network deployments.
- Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Ubiquiti, Aruba, or similar networking platforms.
- Experience with network monitoring tools, ticketing systems, and configuration documentation.
- Basic understanding of wireless networks, microwave, fiber, fixed wireless, or satellite-based connectivity.
- Familiarity with VPNs, NAT, ACLs, DHCP, DNS, and common internet troubleshooting methods.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, JNCIA, Fortinet NSE/FCP, or equivalent experience.

Work Environment
This position is based in-office in Anchorage, Alaska. The role may include customer site visits, telecommunications facilities, field environments, and travel to rural Alaska communities. Travel may occur with limited notice depending on operational or customer requirements.
Candidates should be comfortable working in a practical, hands-on environment where technical problem-solving, customer service, and flexibility are all essential.
Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated technical ability., * Bachelor's (Preferred)
