Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of mechanical and building automation system projects. The ideal candidate will drive the development of HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems (BAS) designs, create clear documentation and control sequences, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure functional, code-compliant, and constructible solutions for commercial and institutional buildings., * Lead end-to-end design of BAS and HVAC control systems, including DDC/PLC logic, control sequences, and panel layouts.

  • Develop detailed mechanical and controls drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications using AutoCAD/Revit and control vendor tools.
  • Perform system sizing, load calculations, and selections to support HVAC and controls design decisions.
  • Prepare technical submittals, basis of design documents, and compliance checks against ASHRAE, NFPA, and local codes.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural, and commissioning teams to integrate controls into overall building systems and ensure constructability.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and vendors to evaluate equipment, resolve design issues, and support procurement activities.
  • Provide support during installation, startup, and commissioning, including reviewing shop drawings, troubleshooting field issues, and witnessing functional tests.
  • Mentor and review work of junior design engineers and technicians, ensuring quality control and adherence to project schedules.
  • Contribute to project proposals, cost estimates, and scope definitions to support business development and successful project delivery.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Professional Engineer license?, Do you have experience in Technical documentation?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field; Masters or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and building automation systems for commercial or institutional projects.
  • Strong knowledge of BAS platforms (Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider, etc.), DDC controllers, and common HVAC control strategies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and controls documentation tools; experience with BIM workflows is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with controls programming, point-to-point diagrams, I/O lists, and vendor coordination.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC system components, load calculations, energy management, and controls integration.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, NFPA codes, and local building codes related to mechanical and controls systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience interacting directly with clients and construction teams.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines; mentoring experience is a plus.
