Job description

The Chicago location serves as the company's primary innovation, engineering, and manufacturing hub, where teams develop and produce medium- and high-voltage switching equipment, smart grid automation systems, energy storage solutions, and power quality technologies. This facility also houses advanced R and D capabilities focused on grid modernization, automation, and resiliency technologies designed to support a more sustainable and outage-resistant power grid.

The organization supports customers across electric utilities, renewable energy providers, commercial and industrial operations, data centers, and government and military applications that depend on reliable and resilient electrical power systems.

The FPGA Engineer will play a critical role in designing and developing high-performance digital hardware solutions that enable advanced control, protection, and communication functions within next-generation power grid equipment., * Design, develop, and implement FPGA-based solutions supporting grid automation, switching, and protection systems used in power distribution and control applications.

  • Develop and optimize HDL code (VHDL or Verilog) for real-time control, signal processing, and communication functions within embedded hardware systems.
  • Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and systems engineering teams to integrate FPGA designs into complex electromechanical and digital control platforms.
  • Perform simulation, validation, and debugging of FPGA designs to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance with system requirements.
  • Support product development lifecycle activities including prototyping, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement of FPGA-based solutions.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Simulation tools?, * Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with experience in FPGA design and development.

  • Strong proficiency in HDL languages such as VHDL or Verilog, along with experience using FPGA development tools and simulation environments.
  • Solid understanding of digital design principles, embedded systems, and real-time processing in hardware-based applications.
  • Experience working in regulated or high-reliability environments such as power systems, industrial automation, or embedded control systems is preferred.
  • Nice to have: Experience with communication protocols, signal processing, or power electronics applications related to grid technology, as well as familiarity with lab testing and hardware validation processes.
