Job description

This position is responsible for managing a team that processes agricultural water withdrawal permit applications, recommends withdrawal permits, and maintains permit files and databases. This position will provide technical assistance and regulatory interpretation of ag water withdrawal laws and rules to other programs, agencies, and the public. This position will also provide technical expertise and testimony reagrding complex environmental issues. This position will interview, make recommendations for hiring, direct, train, evaluate the performance of, and when necessary, recommend discipline and/or discharge of employees. This position will manage human resources and direct administrative activities for team employees. This position will recommend, and assist with preparation and/or drafting of proposed (or desired changes in) laws, regulations, and rules needed for optimum management of the environment. This position will interact extensively with farmers, property owners, University of Georgia Extension agents, water well drillers, and other agricultural stakeholders. This position is 100% state funded.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Team training?, Knowledge of Georgia geology/hydrogeology Knowledge of drilling or well construction

Experience with ESRI ArcGIS computer mapping software

Knowledge or experience within the Agricultural Industry

Prior manager experience Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering (agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary) or a related field from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional experience in environmental enforcement, environmental health, environmental monitoring, environmental protection or environmental research. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
