Job description

We are seeking a Senior Data & Analytics Lead to oversee a multidisciplinary team of around eight data professionals across multiple sites, delivering high-quality analysis and data products to support further education, skills, and teacher development inspection work. You will lead a portfolio of analytical and technology projects aligned to Ofsted’s strategic priorities, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, and subject to proportionate quality assurance. This role combines leadership, project management, and strong analytical capability to drive service delivery and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with stakeholders to set analytical priorities, respond to operational and policy needs, and shape innovative digital solutions that strengthen decision-making. Confident in navigating ambiguity and influencing senior colleagues, you will present clear, impactful recommendations and champion data-driven approaches. Assessment and interview:

Candidates who pass the benchmark at the shortlist stage will be invited to an assessment and interview where you will be assessed against a mixture of the Civil Service behaviours and on the technical/experience skills as detailed in the job specification.

Assessment and interviews will be held during the week commencing 29 June 2026 at 2 Rivergate, Bristol.

Details on the assessment will be provided near the time of the interview.

Candidates within the GSS profession who are already badged can request to be assessed for badging at Grade 7 level, during the interview stage. Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Python?, * Experience leading the development and maintenance of customer-facing tools, ideally using Python, Django and Azure technologies.

  • Ability to assimilate and analyse a wide range of complex information and data, using appropriates analysis tools and drawing out key insights.
  • Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team of technical specialists and analysts, making the most of individual’s contribution, encouraging personal development, that enables effective succession planning to ensure the continuity of services.
  • Experience of leading, managing a range of priorities simultaneously, including: management of scope, resources, risks; planning & tracking delivery; working effectively with stakeholders to understand their needs, deliver the services required.
  • Experience of overseeing large and complex data structures and reporting systems, to support critical services., This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.
