Job description

Computer Lab Aide - Part Time Reports To Supervisor Functions and Responsibilities, Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Online Education and Resources or designee, the Computer Lab Aide supports the daily operations of the Information Commons. The aide assists students in the use of computers, PC peripheral devices, ensures proper functioning of hardware and software, and helps maintain a safe, organized, and supportive learning environment focused on technology integration., * Supervise students while they are using computers and ensure appropriate use of technology and internet resources.

  • Monitor students to ensure adherence to the rules governing the usage of the Information Commons learning hub.
  • Provide basic technical support to students and staff, including logging in, printing, saving work, and navigating educational software.
  • Set up, maintain, and shut down equipment daily; ensure lab is clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Monitor Information Commons schedules and coordinate access with students and instructors.
  • Assist with the maintenance and inventory of hardware, software, and peripherals
  • Prepare reports on hardware and software issues to be sent to the IT department for further support.
  • Maintain records such as equipment/room usage logs, incident reports, and software updates.
  • Participate in other projects as needed.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Working with individuals from underserved communities?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Students from all majors welcome or have a strong interest in Information Science.

  • Majority of time spent indoors in a computer lab setting.
  • May require bending, lifting, and moving equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be comfortable using and assisting others with technology.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software applications, and operating systems (Windows, Outlook, Google Workspace, etc.).
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and troubleshoot minor technical issues.
  • Strong technical skills and tools commonly used in student work, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365 Workspace including Teams and thorough understanding of PDF, JPEG and related image file conventions for document delivery.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on detailed and complex tasks.
  • Able to lift, squat, push carts and related PC items up to 20lbs, as necessary.
  • Experience with underserved or marginalized communities and communities of color and commitment to inclusion and equitable access to information resources.

Benefits & conditions

Compensation :This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $18 - $22 per hour.
