Job description

o Mechanical design and detailing of transmission components (gears and shafts) and sub-assemblies.

o Responsible for identified transmission sub-system or component design, ensuring subsystem / component designs meet target specifications / requirements.

o Support the BOM (bill of materials) generation for new product introductions.

o Support DFMEA generation for transmission and driveline components.

o Apply appropriate quality tools in the resolution of design issues.

o Perform tolerance calculations to support 2D drawing creation.

o Perform design calculations (shaft strength/splines/synchronisers/gears/ratios).

o Prepare, check 2D drawings for release to manufacture.

o Use of analytical software (MASTA, ANSYS, Particleworks etc) to support design decisions.

o Produce presentations to support the reporting of design activities.

o Support transmission development activities ranging from; design modifications, hardware preparation, subsystem testing support/observation, correlation of test results to calculations.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Microsoft PowerPoint?, o Degree qualified or similar qualification in an engineering-based course (mechanical, automotive, aerospace).

o An understanding of gearboxes, clutches and differentials (manual, automatics, DCT's, electric vehicle gearboxes etc); how they work, what they do and the different types.

o An appreciation of manufacturing methods, materials and heat treatments.

o Experience of using 2D and 3D CAD software to create 3D models and 2D drawings including tolerancing.

o An appreciation of FEA, stress types and safety factors.

o Able to manage their own time, prioritise various tasks to ensure jobs are completed on time.

o Organised and capable of working efficiently as part of a small team to tight deadlines.

o Good problem-solving skills with an ability to analyse data and determine appropriate actions.

o Strong communication and written skills.

o MS Office competent (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams).
