Job description

Position Summary: The Gun Desk Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Gun Desk team, including Gun Desk Clerk I and Gun Desk Clerk II positions. This role serves as the primary resource for firearm transaction compliance, documentation accuracy, licensing management, and regulatory adherence. The Gun Desk Lead provides leadership, training, workflow coordination, and quality control while ensuring all federal, state, and local firearm licenses, permits, and compliance records remain current and audit ready., * Supervise and support the daily activities of Gun Desk Clerk I and Gun Desk Clerk II team members.

  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor departmental workloads to ensure timely completion of compliance tasks.
  • Review firearm transaction records, DROS documentation, and compliance files for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and identify trends requiring corrective action.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for compliance questions from stores and internal departments.
  • Research and resolve complex compliance discrepancies and documentation issues.
  • Train, coach, and develop Gun Desk team members on firearm regulations, documentation standards, and department procedures.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and local firearm licenses, permits, registrations, and related documentation remain active, accurate, and up to date.
  • Coordinate license renewals, applications, amendments, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Maintain records related to FFLs, Certificates of Eligibility (COE), DROS permissions, business licenses, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with internal audits, ATF inspections, DOJ audits, and compliance investigations.
  • Support firearm trace requests, law enforcement inquiries, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase compliance accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive company, employee, and firearm-related information.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Research?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 5 years of administrative, compliance, or firearm industry experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ATF regulations, California DOJ requirements, DROS procedures, and firearm documentation standards.
  • Advanced attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • DOJ Certificate of Eligibility (COE) required or ability to obtain and maintain.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive administrative and document review tasks
