Automation & AI Systems Engineer

You won't be inheriting an existing automation environment. You'll be building one.

Using On Belay as the central AI operating platform, you'll connect Shopify, NetSuite, Klaviyo, Recharge, Gorgias, Google Workspace, and other core business systems into a unified ecosystem of workflows, automations, and AI agents.

You'll work directly with company leadership to identify operational bottlenecks, design technical solutions, and deploy systems that reduce manual effort while increasing organizational speed and visibility.

Success in this role means creating durable systems that allow teams to move faster with fewer manual touchpoints.

What You'll Do

AI Infrastructure & Platform Ownership

• Own the implementation and ongoing development of On Belay as ATBBQ's central AI operations platform
• Design and maintain the architecture connecting AI agents, business systems, and operational workflows
• Establish governance, permissions, security standards, and operational best practices
• Continuously improve platform performance, reliability, and adoption

Systems Integration & Automation

• Build and maintain API integrations across core business systems, including:
• Shopify
• NetSuite ERP
• Klaviyo
• Gorgias
• Recharge
• Google Workspace
• Additional SaaS platforms as needed
• Design automation workflows that eliminate repetitive work and improve operational efficiency
• Create synchronization processes that keep data accurate across systems
• Build event-driven workflows supporting product onboarding, catalog management, reporting, fulfillment, and customer operations

AI Agent Deployment

• Configure and deploy AI agents capable of performing approved business actions across integrated systems
• Establish permission frameworks and safeguards for agent operations
• Develop workflows that combine human oversight with automated execution
• Continuously identify new use cases for AI-assisted operations

Operations & Maintenance

• Monitor system health and troubleshoot integration issues
• Maintain documentation for workflows, credentials, permissions, and architecture
• Manage API credentials, authentication methods, and security configurations
• Ensure platform uptime and operational continuity
• Support ongoing optimization efforts across departments

Strategic Execution

• Translate business objectives into scalable technical workflows
• Partner with leadership on high-impact initiatives and operational improvements
• Serve as the internal subject matter expert on AI operations, automation, and systems integration
• Identify opportunities to increase organizational leverage through technology

Do you have experience in Technical writing?, Compensation is fully commensurate with experience, technical capability, and demonstrated ability to deliver results., * 3+ years of experience building integrations, automations, or business systems

• Strong understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, authentication methods, and data flows
• Experience working with OAuth, token-based authentication, API keys, and related technologies
• Familiarity with AI tools, LLM platforms, agent frameworks, or automation technologies
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment
• Excellent written documentation and communication skills
• Systems-thinking mindset with the ability to understand how tools and processes connect

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Shopify APIs, Admin API, metafields, or ecommerce architecture
• Experience integrating ERP systems such as NetSuite
• Familiarity with Klaviyo, Recharge, Gorgias, or similar ecommerce platforms
• Experience with automation platforms such as Make, Zapier, n8n, or Workato
• Experience with AI orchestration platforms or agent-based systems
• Exposure to ecommerce, merchandising, customer experience, or marketing operations workflows
• Basic scripting experience in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
