Job description

Performs inspections, checks, and tests for quality control for the manufacturing of electrical component products relating to the rail industry, while independently interpreting requirements and supporting production decisions in real time.

This role includes day-to-day technical ownership of production quality activities and is expected to resolve routine inspection and production quality issues at the source with minimal supervision, supporting inspectors and production personnel with inspection decisions, drawing interpretation, and application of quality standards.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

  • May be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, and use fingers and hands to use objects, tools, or controls
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Vision requirements: close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Employee could be exposed to hot/cold temperatures and loud noises
  • Ability to understand, speak, read, and write fluently in English

General Responsibilities:

  • Be aware of the safety manual and follow all safety instructions
  • Follow all policies described in the employee handbook
  • Work overtime if required by the company
  • Maintain and care for all goods and tools provided by the company
  • Follow clock in and out policy, as well as work order notification in the system
  • Maintain job related documentation up-to-date and in an organized manner
  • Control and tracking of calibration equipment, including recordkeeping of calibration incidents
  • Maintain an active presence on the production floor throughout the shift
  • All employees are empowered to stop production for quality or safety concerns

Specific Responsibilities:

Manufacturing Process Inspection:

  • Inspect equipment during the manufacturing process according to quality procedures and technical documentation while applying independent judgment within established procedures
  • Perform line checks throughout the day
  • Provide inspection activity for product through the production cycle
  • Perform PSI inspections
  • Track serialization of equipment
  • Document and monitor the inspection and testing of final product

Production Floor Technical Support / Ownership:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for inspectors regarding inspection decisions, drawing interpretation, and standards application
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to inspectors during daily operations
  • Proactively circulate the production floor to identify and resolve issues before escalation
  • Assist Production in resolving inspection-related concerns in real time
  • Make routine inspection and disposition decisions without escalation when within authority
  • Apply ISO and IPC standards to real-world production conditions
  • Escalate only when issues involve customer impact, risk, or require management authority.

Non-Conformance Management:

  • Assist in non-conformity management, as required
  • Ensure proper control of all non-conforming materials
  • Expedite proper disposition of these materials in a timely manner

Requirements

Do you have experience in Technical documentation?, * Demonstrated ability to apply inspection processes in a production environment

  • Proficient in interpretation of mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Understanding of procedures and documentation related to the build process
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
  • Ability to interpret and apply IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001) in a production environment or willingness to learn
  • Proficient in the use of measurement tools and capable of interpreting results to support disposition decisions
  • Rail industry experience is a plus

  • Relate to subordinates, colleagues, and management in a professional and productive manner
  • Work closely with all departments on a variety of material, engineering, and quality matters
  • Maintain a professional and productive demeanor
  • Ability to provide guidance and support to other inspectors based on experience and knowledge
  • Ability to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Interaction with customer representatives and third-party auditors
  • Teamwork skills
