Job description
We are seeking an experienced Controls Software Designer to join our engineering team. This role is responsible for the design, development, and support of PLC and HMI software for automated systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Allen-Bradley controls, automation systems, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The Controls Software Designer will work closely with hardware designers, project managers, shop trades, and customers to deliver high-quality automation solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop PLC and HMI software for automation systems.
- Program Allen-Bradley PLCs using RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000.
- Develop HMI applications using FactoryTalk.
- Verify hardware designs while developing software programs.
- Support commissioning and startup activities, including troubleshooting and debugging.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and device data sheets.
- Follow customer-specific standards and design requirements.
- Collaborate with mechanical designers, hardware designers, project managers, and shop personnel.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Assist in developing and maintaining standardized software tools and programming practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow all safety and environmental regulations.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Troubleshooting electrical systems?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of controls engineering/design experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000).
- Experience with FactoryTalk HMI software.
- Strong understanding of electrical and pneumatic control systems.
- Ability to commission and debug automation systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Experience using testing and metering equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Experience with Siemens PLCs or other automation platforms.
