Job description
Provides advanced operational support for secure Linux, virtualized, and containerized computing environments supporting instructional and research activities within Engineering and Computing Technology Services. The position emphasizes infrastructure security, virtualization, container platforms, and support for scientific and AI applications to ensure reliable, scalable, and compliant computing services. This role focuses on the growth of AI for research and instructional platforms, and the efficient, secure use of virtualized systems.
- Administers and supports Linux-based systems used for instructional, research, and shared computing services, including provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management. Ensures systems are secure, reliable, and aligned with operational standards.
- Operates and maintains virtualized environments supporting instructional labs, research workloads, and internal services. Monitors performance, availability, and resource utilization across virtual platforms.
- Supports containerized platforms using Docker and lightweight Kubernetes distributions (e.g., K3s) for instructional and research deployments. Assists with image maintenance, updates, and platform stability.
- Performs systems and infrastructure security operations, including vulnerability remediation, log review, access control enforcement, and host-based security monitoring. Participates in incident response and system recovery activities.
- Supports scientific and AI-enabled applications, including frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and related modeling or analytics tools. Assists faculty and students with environment configuration and troubleshooting.
- Implements automation and scripting solutions (e.g., shell or Python) to streamline system administration, monitoring, and security tasks. Contributes to improving operational efficiency and repeatability.
- Maintains operational and security documentation for supported systems, platforms, and procedures. Participates in knowledge sharing and cross-training within the IT team.
- Serves as essential personnel during university emergencies and supports continuity of operations, backup validation, and service restoration efforts as required.
- Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Vulnerability Remediation?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technology field and two (2) years of experience in the field; OR six (6) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
