Software Architect

We are seeking an experienced Software Architect to join a growing engineering team based in client location. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and governing software architectures for complex geospatial systems, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and compliant with industry standards. The Software Architect will work closely with System Architects, Product Owners, Software Engineers, and Test Engineers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions while providing architectural leadership throughout the software development lifecycle., Architecture & Design

• Translate business goals and high-level requirements into scalable software architectures.
• Design secure, flexible, maintainable, and cloud-based architectures for complex geospatial systems.
• Ensure architectural decisions balance performance, reliability, security, scalability, and compliance requirements.
• Identify technical risks early and implement effective mitigation strategies.

Technical Leadership

• Provide hands-on architectural guidance to software engineering teams.
• Support development teams in selecting appropriate technologies, frameworks, and design patterns.
• Ensure solutions adhere to agreed architectural standards and best practices.
• Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence across teams.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Work within Agile Scrum teams alongside developers, testers, Product Owners, and System Architects.
• Participate in technical reviews, architecture governance activities, and design discussions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to communicate architecture decisions and technical strategies effectively.

Documentation & Governance

• Produce clear architecture documentation and technical design artefacts.
• Document architecture decisions, rationale, and implementation approaches.
• Support compliance, security, and reliability reviews throughout project delivery.

• Proven experience designing and owning software architectures for complex enterprise systems.
• Strong cloud architecture experience and understanding of modern cloud-native technologies.
• Knowledge of DevSecOps principles and secure software delivery practices.
• Experience working in environments with strict security, reliability, and compliance requirements.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to present architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic architecture planning with practical delivery needs.
• Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
• Passion for mentoring and supporting engineering teams.

Preferred

• Experience within geospatial systems or geospatial data platforms.
• Experience in Defence, Aerospace, National Security, or Space sectors.
• Previous experience working on highly regulated or secure programmes.
