Job description

The Network Infrastructure Specialist will serve as the primary networking resource supporting a major infrastructure modernization initiative. This project-based role will focus on the deployment, validation, optimization, and stabilization of the school's network infrastructure before, during, and after implementation activities.

Working closely with DNS engineering leadership and the Cloud Migration Specialist, the Network Infrastructure Specialist will be responsible for ensuring all network services, internet connectivity, wireless systems, firewall infrastructure, and communication services remain operational throughout the migration and implementation process.

This is a high-accountability role requiring strong technical expertise, operational discipline, and the ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues under tight implementation timelines., 1. Network Infrastructure Deployment

  • Install, configure, and validate network switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and related infrastructure components
  • Support implementation of new network architecture and infrastructure modernization initiatives
  • Configure and validate VLANs, routing, DHCP, DNS, network segmentation, and connectivity services
  • Verify network redundancy, failover configurations, and infrastructure resiliency
  • Assist with equipment replacement, implementation, and cutover activities
  1. Internet Connectivity & Telecommunications
  • Validate internet connectivity and network performance across all campus locations
  • Coordinate with internet service providers and telecommunications vendors during implementation activities
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues impacting instructional or administrative operations
  • Verify functionality of voice and communication services dependent on network infrastructure
  • Support testing and validation of network-dependent systems following implementation
  1. Wireless Infrastructure & Network Performance
  • Perform wireless coverage assessments and connectivity validation
  • Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot wireless access points and related infrastructure
  • Resolve Wi-Fi performance, roaming, signal strength, and connectivity issues
  • Ensure reliable wireless access throughout instructional and administrative spaces
  • Identify and remediate network performance bottlenecks
  1. Firewall & Network Security Implementation
  • Support deployment and configuration of next-generation firewall solutions
  • Validate network security policies, segmentation controls, and access restrictions
  • Assist with implementation of secure connectivity standards and best practices
  • Verify proper operation of VPN, remote access, and network security services
  • Identify and escalate infrastructure security concerns to DNS engineering leadership
  1. Structured Cabling & Physical Infrastructure
  • Verify network cabling installations, switch uplinks, fiber connections, and patch panel configurations
  • Maintain network rack organization and infrastructure standards
  • Validate physical connectivity between network components and critical systems
  • Assist with documentation of infrastructure layouts and network topology
  • Identify and resolve physical infrastructure deficiencies impacting performance
  1. Testing, Troubleshooting & Stabilization
  • Perform comprehensive testing before, during, and after implementation activities
  • Troubleshoot outages, latency issues, packet loss, service interruptions, and connectivity failures
  • Provide rapid response during implementation windows and infrastructure cutovers
  • Monitor network performance following deployment and resolve operational issues
  • Assist with post-implementation stabilization and optimization efforts
  1. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams and infrastructure documentation
  • Document configurations, implementation changes, testing results, and remediation activities
  • Assist with project closeout reporting and operational handoff procedures
  • Provide recommendations for future network maintenance and infrastructure improvements

This includes:

  • Rapid response to outages, system failures, and access disruptions
  • Remote support and escalation coordination for high-priority incidents outside normal hours when necessary
  • Collaboration with DNS engineering teams during critical incidents
  • Participation in disaster recovery and continuity operations when required, The primary objective of this engagement is to ensure all network infrastructure, internet services, wireless systems, firewall services, and communication systems are successfully implemented, validated, optimized, and stabilized as part of the broader technology modernization initiative.

Successful completion of this project will include:

  • Verified network functionality across all campus locations
  • Successful implementation and validation of network infrastructure upgrades
  • Stable internet and wireless connectivity throughout the campus
  • Successful firewall deployment and security validation
  • Resolution of implementation-related networking issues
  • Complete infrastructure documentation and operational handoff to DNS support teams

Requirements

Do you have experience in VPN management?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Minimum 5 years of network engineering, network administration, or infrastructure support experience

  • Strong experience with enterprise networking technologies including switching, routing, wireless networking, and firewalls
  • Experience supporting Cisco, Ubiquiti, Meraki, Fortinet, SonicWall, or equivalent platforms
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, routing, switching, and wireless technologies
  • Experience supporting network refreshes, implementations, or infrastructure modernization projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues independently
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively during implementation windows and critical infrastructure cutovers

Preferred Qualifications

  • CCNA, CCNP, Network+, or equivalent networking certification
  • Experience supporting K-12 educational environments
  • Experience with enterprise wireless deployments and optimization
  • Experience with firewall implementation and network security best practices
  • Experience coordinating with internet service providers and telecommunications vendors, * Bachelor's (Required)
