Job description

We are currently supporting our client with recruitment for the following role:Senior Design Engineer Job DescriptionAn excellent opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in temporary works to take a leading role in design delivery across major UK infrastructure projects. This position provides management across multiple schemes, ensuring high-quality, buildable and safe engineering solutions from early design through to delivery. Key ResponsibilitiesAct as the single engineering point of contact across multiple projects, with responsibility for technical deliverables, quality, programme and costLead the design and detailing of complex temporary and permanent works in accordance with recognised standards, including design calculations, drawings, design risk assessments and technical reportsReport directly to the Head of Engineering, providing clear updates on progress, external consultant performance and resource needsAct as Engineering Department Representative (EDR) and single point of contact for allocated projectsProvide final approval of design deliverables prior to issue and review both internally and externally designed temporary worksAssist the Engineering Manager in delivering procedural training and developing the competency of Temporary Works Coordinators and SupervisorsSupport the development of Graduate Design Engineers and Design Engineers within the department, acting as ICE Supervising Civil Engineer where requiredPrepare design fee estimates and programme duration information for projects and tendersCoordinate with external consultants - agreeing scope, obtaining quotations, drafting task orders and monitoring progressUndertake site visits to review progress, resolve technical issues and ensure alignment between design intent and constructionProduce technical sketches and drawings using hand drawing or CAD software (AutoCAD LT, SketchUp)Identify areas for improvement and contribute to the achievement of department goalsMaintain up-to-date CPD records and proactively manage professional development

Requirements

Key RequirementsDegree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)Chartered / Incorporated Engineer status with the ICE, IStructE or other relevant professional bodyMinimum 5 years industry experienceBroad range of temporary and / or permanent works design experienceSound knowledge of civil, structural and / or geotechnical engineering principlesKnowledge of health and safety legislation, in particular CDM Regulations, as applicable to role Our client is committed to building a workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
