Job description

  • The Network Technician serves as a member of the team responsible for administration and maintenance of technology systems for Stafford County Public Schools. The Network Technician performs key roles in district-level system administration, maintenance of server and network infrastructure, and deployment and administration of IT-managed endpoint devices. The Network Technician provides technical support for technicians and end users, and assists with the documentation and training needs of SCPS technology systems.

Work Objectives/Essential Functions

  • Act as a systems administrator for key district technology systems including various user, workflow and endpoint management systems.
  • Troubleshoot technology issues, follow-up with affected staff, and coordinator with support vendors as required.
  • Work as part of the Engineering and Operations team to manage and maintain the division's server and network infrastructure.
  • Work as a part of the Engineering and Operations team to manage the division's endpoint device deployments.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation for SCPS technology systems.
  • Assist with technician and user training on SCPS technology systems.
  • Prioritizes, schedules, and responds to work requests in a timely manner., * Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position.
  • Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly.
  • Maintain a clean, neat appearance and dress appropriate to position and duties.
  • Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
  • Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Work in close harmony with supervisor(s) and colleagues.
  • Comply with all division policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality and professional conduct, as well as all site-based procedures and protocols.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent

Education Attainment (Preferred):

Relevant Experience (Required):

Minimum of three(3) years of experience in network, device, and/or user system administration

Relevant Experience (Preferred):

Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required):

  • CompTIA A+ or equivalent experience is required.
  • CompTIA Network +, Linux +, Microsoft Certified Desktop Administrator, Google Workspace Administrator, or other comparable industry certification in network or systems administration required., * Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: endpoint management systems, network/server infrastructure monitoring systems, productivity suites and platforms (e.g. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace), wired/wireless TCP/IP networking.
  • A demonstrable ability to write and maintain technical documentation.
  • Able to effectively research technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals.
  • Organizational skills needed to work on multiple projects while meeting all deadlines.
