Job description

Portsmouth Water are delighted to have an opening for a Network Technician to join our growing Network department. Responsible for conducting a variety of water network field activities, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring safe, first-time resolutions. This role involves both planned and reactive work, addressing performance issues, optimising water supply systems, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position also requires collaboration with teams, asset management, monitoring of water quality, and mentoring other operatives., Perform field-based water network activities within Portsmouth Water's area of supply (South East Hampshire & West Sussex). Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, working collaboratively with teams and stakeholders. Handle planned and reactive work, investigating water network performance (pressure, leakage, metering, supply disruptions). Conduct distribution main isolation, asset verification, and water quality checks (flushing, sampling). Monitor flows, pressures, and water quality (chlorine, turbidity), ensuring safe operations. Operate water assets (valves, hydrants) and perform site assessments using GIS and schematics. Perform site inspections and provide detailed reports to relevant teams. Support office-based teams, prepare equipment, and support fellow operatives. Ensure strict compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Participate in out of hours (including weekends) stand by duties in addition to core hours, which are Monday to Thursday 8am 4.15pm and Friday 8am 3.30pm., The successful applicant will be required to have a full UK manual car driving licence (Class B), will have to undergo a driving assessment, consent to ongoing driving licence checks and additionally any other safety measures deemed necessary by Portsmouth Water Ltd in connection with driving.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have experience in IT?, Clean water industry field experience desirable, for example experience in pressure/flow, dealing with customer enquiries relating to water supply issues, tests, main isolation, flushing & sampling. EUSR Water Hygiene certificate desirable. Valve operations including CALM Networks desirable. NRSWA Operative (Unit 2) desirable. IT proficiency including Office365, GIS mapping tools, PDA/Tablet use, and online reporting software. A passion for delivering excellent customer service. Strong initiative to problem-solve field issues. Driven by safe, first-time results and motivated by seeing activities through from start to finish. A proven track record of owning or leading tasks and activities, with a drive to see jobs through to resolution. High regard for compliance, putting safety above all else. Lead by example and seek to share knowledge, skill, and work ethic with your team. Ability to work flexibly and reactively depending on business operations and requirements. Happy working outdoors in all weather conditions. Working in confined spaces. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a safety critical medical upon job offer, to ensure they are able to perform the role safely.
