Job description

Consortium X is recruiting a Senior Network Engineer to support the delivery of a strategic UK defence communications and information services programme based at Corsham. The role provides senior technical input to the design, build, validation and operation of the core physical and virtual networking infrastructure underpinning a major deployed C4 capability., * Producing and reviewing all levels of design artefacts and supporting engineering documentation.

  • Refining and implementing secure, repeatable network configurations and testing against requirements.
  • Supporting wider system testing activities across the programme.
  • Working with Service Management to resolve issues and support live operations.
  • Engaging with multidisciplinary stakeholders across the programme, including subject matter experts, providing clear technical justification for design decisions.

Requirements

Do you have experience in vSphere?, This is a hands-on senior engineering role suited to a network engineer with proven CCNP-level capability, deep Cisco enterprise networking experience and current virtualisation skills, comfortable operating in a high-assurance defence environment under regulatory and security scrutiny., * Network engineering capability at CCNP level or above. Current certification not required, but demonstrable capability essential.

  • Strong network monitoring, traffic analysis and lifecycle management experience supporting performance, security and reliability.
  • Experience producing technical documentation and knowledge transfer artefacts.
  • Strategic network infrastructure planning experience.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and ability to justify technical recommendations to senior audiences.
  • Proven experience exploiting VMware ESXi 8.0.3.
  • Proven experience exploiting VMware vSphere 8.0.3.
  • Active UK Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
  • Sole UK national.
  • Willingness and ability to be on site at MOD Corsham 4 days per week.

  • Cisco Nexus.
  • Cisco IOS XE.
  • Leaf and Spine network architecture.
  • VXLAN overlay networks.
  • Dual Cloud Dual Hub DMVPN solutions.
  • Layer 3 Multicast / PIM.
  • Firewall IPS/IDS.
  • AAA Management Platform experience, e.g. Cisco ISE.

Desirable

  • Network Operations and Management within resilient service delivery environments.
  • Fault Diagnosis and 3rd Line Technical Support.
  • Cisco CCNA Instructor Accreditation.
  • EIGRP Routing Protocol and operational best practices.
  • QoS and DSCP configuration, particularly for Voice over IP solutions.
  • System of Systems methodology within complex technical environments.
  • Cybersecurity and regulatory compliance experience, including CIDA requirements.
  • Linux Ubuntu 24.04.4.
  • Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM) v15.x.
