Job description
The Sr. Analytics Engineer is responsible for modeling our complex clinical and operational data into data products that capture how a world-class laboratory functions. Works with Information Technology Staff, Medical Directors, and Lab Managers to understand the nuances of our laboratory operations to augment our data model for modern analytics tooling., Apply software engineering best practices (version control, modularity, and automated testing, etc) to our data transformation layer using industry-standard frameworks such as dbt.
Architect and optimize the query layer to ensure performant analytics across our data lake and warehouse using serverless or managed technologies like Athena, Redshift, or BigQuery.
Own the ingestion and orchestration frameworks that stitch together disparate clinical data sources using modern tools such as Glue, Airflow, or Dagster.
Lead the modernization of ARUP's data ontology for specific clinical and business domains such as Laboratory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Genomics, and Quality Control.
Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap for our data platform, informing high-level decisions on how to scale cloud-based storage and compute to handle high-volume data.
Collaborate with leadership to collect requirements and write the code for Secure, Timely, Accurate, Trusted, and Extensible (STATE) data products.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Schema design?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Required
- Six plus (6+) years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related technical field, with a proven track record of architecting scalable data models in a cloud environment
Preferred
- Advanced degrees or specialized certifications
- Expert SQL & Modeling: Mastery of complex SQL and deep experience with modern transformation frameworks (e.g., dbt). You should have experience managing large-scale projects with hundreds of models and complex dependency graphs
- Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on experience designing and maintaining data infrastructure within a major cloud provider (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure), including a strong understanding of IAM, VPCs, and encryption
- Programming Proficiency: Professional-level experience with Python or R for data manipulation, automation, and API integrations, Required
- Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Science or related field
