Job description
This employee will be responsible for providing reliable GIS support to SCDNR staff, and reliable GIS-derived information to agency leadership, the public, and decision makers. Job Duties Include:
- Managing the ArcSDE database and associated web services.
- Designing and implementing data models for the SDE.
- Managing multi-user editing capabilities in SDE and developing protocols for distributing editing capabilities to SCDNR staff where appropriate.
- Publishing web services to the agency's ArcGIS Portal and ArcGIS Online.
- Maintaining data quality and consistency through GIS database best practices.
- Fulfilling requests from other SCDNR divisions to support their GIS needs. Requests may include maps, analyses, reports, GIS based web applications, and GIS data. These may also include requests to assist (teach) staff in using GIS.
- Assisting in the development and support of web applications and web-based field data collection applications using ESRI Arc Enterprise platform, or other platforms if appropriate.
- Communicating with SCDNR staff about GIS web applications.
- Assisting with cartographic product development, including annual WMA maps, kiosk maps, property maps, trail maps, and other maps, as needed. Assisting in the development of agency basemaps.
- Preparing data to be included in cartographic products.
- Following strong cartographic principles to produce high quality maps.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Web development?, Do you have a Master's degree?, A master's degree in geography or a related field and two (2) years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree in geography or a related field and four (4) years of related experience., Extensive knowledge of GIS and administrative, management, or program development experience with GIS projects. Experience working with GIS in an organizational environment, working with a centralized GIS database including experience with ArcGIS Enterprise. Knowledge of relational databases (e.g. SQL Server) and spatial data models. Extensive knowledge of GIS software, especially ESRI products, although familiarity with non-ESRI GIS products is appreciated. Ability to assess incoming data for errors, correct problems, and design workflows for preventing data errors. Familiarity with database design concepts, data management, data collection, and data quality assurance and control. Ability to use a variety of spatial analyses to solve problems related to natural resources. Some knowledge of common programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript) used for GIS applications preferred. Knowledge of web-based GIS architecture and web development concepts. Knowledge of ArcGIS web-based GIS workflows for publishing, editing, and distributing web services. Ability to train non-GIS professionals win using GIS technology to support their program's goals. Knowledge of cartography standards and methods for developing quality maps (print and digital).
