Job description

The IT System Administrator at Superior Steel Supply is a hands-on technical role providing onsite support at our GLT and MPC locations while contributing to the data infrastructure and systems integration work that underpins the company's technology strategy. This position allows the IT team to focus on higher-level projects - primarily the PS Data ERP implementation - by owning day-to-day site-level support, and serves as backup to Jacob, our helpdesk technician. Reporting Structure

Reporting to Joe Dickman, IT Manager

High-Level Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary onsite IT resource at GLT and MPC, handling hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Be able to deploy Networking and Firewall
  • Free up the IT team for strategic projects by owning site-level support and day-to-day technical requests.
  • Backup Jacob (helpdesk technician) to ensure uninterrupted technical support coverage across the company.
  • Own IT-assigned tasks in the PS Data ERP go-live readiness checklist through the October 2026 cut-over.
  • Manage data migration from the legacy Access system into PS Data, including grades, vendors, and customer records.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, and security configuration in PS Data and Microsoft 365.
  • Maintain and support integration between PS Data, HubSpot CRM, and the custom quoting tool.
  • Build and maintain bulk data import templates for purchasing, secondary material, and part numbers.
  • Configure and manage SSRS reporting, automated report subscriptions, and department views.
  • Support cybersecurity compliance and monitor security threats across both locations.
  • Manage IT helpdesk ticket queue and ensure timely resolution at GLT and MPC.
  • Provide user training and guidance on PS Data, Microsoft 365, and other applications.

Specific Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Onsite & Helpdesk Support: Respond to user requests for technical assistance via phone, email, or in-person at GLT and MPC. Backup Jacob for helpdesk tickets across the organization when needed.
  • Hardware & Network Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues with workstations, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and networking equipment. Perform routine maintenance, updates, and patches.
  • PS Data ERP Administration: Create and manage user accounts and permission levels in PS Data. Manage the PS Data test database (SSCS 2), including refreshes and resets. Own IT-side go-live checklist items including printer/form configuration, email templates, and cut-over documentation.
  • Data Migration & Management: Clean, enhance, and import grade master data from Access into PS Data. Build the vendor contact list from scratch. Build and test Excel import templates for 600+ customer-specific part numbers and secondary material bulk receiving. Migrate open POs, SOs, and customer records at cut-over.
  • Systems Integration: Test and confirm the PS Data to HubSpot webhook integration. Support data flow between PS Data, the custom quoting tool (BPOZ), and the future customer portal. Troubleshoot and resolve issues between connected systems.
  • Reporting & Configuration: Configure and deploy SSRS reports for departments. Set up automated report subscriptions and custom views per department and per manager.
  • Device Setup & Maintenance: Set up and configure devices for new hires. Install, update, and maintain operating systems and business applications at GLT and MPC.
  • User Training: Train end users on PS Data, Microsoft 365, and other tools as systems are implemented or updated.
  • Flexibility & Team Support: Perform additional duties as assigned by Joe Dickman. Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support the broader IT team's priorities as they evolve.

Expectations:

  • Full-Time, Salaried Position
  • Primary locations: GLT and MPC; regular onsite presence required at both
  • Normal office hours: 8AM to 5PM, with additional hours as needed around implementation milestones
  • Active participant in the PS Data ERP implementation through October 2026 go-live
  • Works cross-departmentally with Purchasing, Account Management, Accounting, and Sales
  • Participates in scheduled IT team meetings and PS Data training sessions as needed

Requirements

Do you have experience in Networking equipment (troubleshooting support)?, * Proven experience in IT support with strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and business software applications.

  • Firewall and Networking Experience
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365, including email, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Excel proficiency required; experience with SQL, SSRS, or structured data imports preferred.
  • Exposure to ERP systems; experience with PS Data or similar steel/distribution ERP is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms (HubSpot preferred) and webhook/API integrations is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to translate technical concepts for non-technical team members.
  • High attention to detail, especially in data migration and system configuration tasks.
  • Ability to work across two locations and collaborate effectively with remote IT team members.
