Layer8 Consulting has an opening for a Systems Engineer that will provide support to a medium-sized Active Directory infrastructure. This individual will be a hands-on member of the server engineering team responsible for daily support and maintenance of the server environments for one of our current clients. This position is a seven-month full-time contract position with the possibility of permanent on-going employment., · Maintain platform support for servers operating Server 2016 and Server 2025 software environment. Servers are both physical and virtual.
· Support Windows server services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and GPOs.
· Document all work in the required ticket system.
· Work on server deployment and maintenance, storage management, VM management, backup management, and technology troubleshooting.
· Provide design, development, administration, troubleshooting, documentation, security, debugging and implementation of the hardware, operating system, and application software of supported Windows servers.
· Provide set up and support of virtual hosts and maintain servers running on the hosts.
· Provide support with other team members to develop an overarching architectural plan for the data center.
· Responsible for the configuration and management of the storage systems.
· Increase day-to-day operational efficiency and accuracy via the use of automated tools and scripts.
· Provides technical support for the Storage and Backup systems.
· Effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and related infrastructure.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Technical writing?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, · Ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
· 1-3 years of related IT work experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
· Experience with technical troubleshooting of user support issues
· Experience with server operating systems including Windows Server 2016 through 2025.
· Knowledge of Storage technologies and data backup technologies.
· Experience managing Windows desktops through GPO.
· Microsoft O365 and Azure experience
· Troubleshooting skills
· Working knowledge of networking principles.
· Positive attitude, friendly demeanor and ability to grasp new concepts quickly
· Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
· Ability to create/maintain clear and concise technical and knowledge base documentation
· Ability to lift 60 lbs. without assistance.
· Proficient oral and written communication skills.
· Must be a US citizen.
DESIRED SKILLS
· Azure Fundamentals Certification
· Working knowledge of Windows 11 Operating Systems
· Working knowledge of Apple iOS and familiarity with iPhones
· Working knowledge of M365 or GCC-H
· Experience working with Help Desk ticketing systems
· Ability to quickly learn new software, hardware, and processes
· Understanding of basic desktop & laptop troubleshooting
· Excellent customer service skills
· Time management and organization skills
