Job description

Position Summary: This is an unclassified, full-time position reporting to the Public Affairs Division Director. This position will be housed in either the Pratt Operations Office OR the Office of the Secretary in Topeka. Other KDWP locations will be considered depending on availability. The Website Coordinator blends content development, digital asset management, and sitewide governance to ensure our website is accurate, accessible, and user-focused. If you're a strong writer with sharp attention to detail and a commitment to improving digital experiences, we'd love to meet you., * Content Development and Publishing: Writes, edits, and develops a wide range of website content to support agency communication needs. Serves as the primary reviewer and publisher of staff-submitted updates. Applies optimization practices-including SEO, AEO, and metadata-to improve search visibility and user experience.

  • Digital Asset Management and Platform Optimization: Manages photo, video, and document libraries, ensuring all digital materials meet quality, accessibility, and formatting standards. Maintains KDWP's digital presence on external platforms where agency content appears (such as Kansas Tourism and other partner sites). Applies optimization practices-including SEO, AEO, and metadata-to improve search visibility and user experience.
  • Coordination, Governance, and Staff Support: Acts as the primary liaison to staff across the agency for website updates, guidance, and content planning, ensuring consistent messaging across the agency. Ensures sitewide content accuracy to maintain public trust and agency credibility. Enforces established web standards, accessibility requirements, and content guidelines. Contributes to and enforces governance materials, workflows, and training resources. Provides training and support to staff who contribute content. Collaborates with IT and vendors on technical needs, accessibility compliance, and platform functionality.
  • Digital Strategy: Works closely with the Public Affairs team to support communication initiatives and integrated content planning. Contributes to digital strategy discussions, helps align website content with broader communication goals, and coordinates shared content needs.
  • Analytics and Continuous Improvement: Uses analytics tools to monitor site performance, user behavior, and content effectiveness. Identifies issues, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Works with the Division Director to prioritize enhancements and ensure the website supports agency communication goals and user needs., **Please note, this form must either be witnessed and signed by a Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks employee or signed in front of and notarized by a notary public. Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Web writing?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensing & Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and pass a background check.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Three to five years of experience in writing, editing, website management, digital content management, communications, or related work. Equivalent experience gained through internships, volunteer work, freelance projects, or demonstrated skill in managing digital content may substitute for formal employment experience. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong organizational and project-management skills. Ability to write, edit, and organize clear, user-focused content. Ability to adapt to evolving digital tools, standards, and communication needs, and a demonstrated willingness to learn new skills as the field changes. Ability to influence and guide others without direct authority, ensuring adherence to standards and processes.

Preferred Qualifications: Post-secondary education in communications, digital media, marketing, journalism, information technology, or a related field is helpful but not required.

About the company

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) is an executive branch agency in charge of operating and regulating the use of state parks, state lakes, recreational grounds, wildlife areas and sanctuaries, fish hatcheries, natural areas, historic sites and other lands, waters, and facilities for the promotion of public health, safety, and for the use and pleasure of visitors. The agency is also charged with the development and conservation of wildlife and the natural resources within the state. The agency oversees 29 state parks, 500 miles of trails, approximately 460,301 acres of leased or owned public lands, management of four hatcheries, and four nature centers. To meet our mission, projects, and goals, KDWP employs approximately 466 full time employees and up to 350 temporary employees, throughout the state, with diverse and varying skillsets. The largest agency office is the Operations Offices in Pratt, Kansas. The Office of the Secretary is maintained in Topeka, Kansas. There are four Regional Offices located in Topeka, Wichita, Hays, and Dodge City; six District Offices in Kansas City, Chanute, Colby, Fort Scott, Garden City, and Mound City; and a Research Office located in Emporia, Kansas.
