Job description

The Systems and Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of an organization's network infrastructure and systems. This role involves maintaining and optimizing network performance, monitoring systems, troubleshooting issues, and implementing security measures. The Network / Systems Engineer plays a vital role in supporting the organization's technology infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted business operations. Critical thinking skills and the ability to successfully work independently in a fast-paced corporate environment are critical success factors for the incumbent in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Network Management:

  • Assist Sr Administrator in maintaining our LAN, WAN, VPN, and Wi-Fi networks.

  • Assist Sr Administrator to configure, manage, and maintain network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.

  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize network resources to ensure maximum efficiency.

  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access controls.

  • Manage network protocols, IP addressing, and subnets.

  • Monitor logs and manage alerts in our SIEM

Systems Administration:

  • Install, configure, and maintain server systems (physical or virtual) running various operating systems such as Windows Server and Linux.

  • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Email, O365, GPO's, MFA, SSO, at a minimum.

  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls to ensure data security and compliance.

  • Perform system backups, disaster recovery planning, and system updates to maintain data integrity and availability.

  • Monitor system performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.

  • Assist in the customizations and help to maintain our MS Team Dynamix ITSM platform.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement security best practices to safeguard network and system infrastructure from unauthorized access, breaches, and cyber threats.

  • Keep systems and software up to date with the latest security patches and updates.

  • Work with the SecOps team to identify and mitigate potential risks.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards, such as HIPAA, GDPR, or others relevant to the organization.

Troubleshooting and Support:

  • Respond to and resolve user-reported technical issues related to network connectivity, hardware, software, and system functionality.

  • Provide timely technical support both remotely and on-site.

  • Troubleshoot complex problems by analyzing system logs, monitoring tools, and diagnostic utilities.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of network and system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Generate regular reports on network and system performance, security incidents, and maintenance activities., The role of a Network / Systems Engineer is critical in maintaining the stability, security, and functionality of an organization's IT infrastructure. By managing networks, servers, and security protocols, this professional ensures seamless operations and contributes to the overall success of the organization's technology-driven goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Proven experience as a Network and Systems Engineer.

  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, architectures, and technologies.

  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network devices and systems.

  • Familiarity with server operating systems, virtualization technologies, and cloud platforms.

  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical issues.

  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members, end-users, and vendors.

  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, etc., are a plus.

  • Ability to provide superior customer service.

Work Environment:

The Network / Systems Engineer typically works in an office environment, but remote work may be possible. This role requires off-hours work for system maintenance, upgrades, and responding to emergencies.
