Job description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Supervisor to oversee the administration, optimization, maintenance, and support of our laboratory information systems across a growing independent physician-owned laboratory network. This position serves as the primary liaison between laboratory operations, information technology, laboratory vendors, and clinical staff to ensure efficient, compliant, and reliable laboratory information management.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in laboratory operations, laboratory information systems, interface management, regulatory compliance, and project leadership. This individual will play a critical role in supporting laboratory workflow automation, system enhancements, reporting, and end-user training., * Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of the laboratory information system.
- Configure, test, validate, and implement LIS enhancements, upgrades, and new functionality.
- Maintain test catalogs, reference ranges, result reporting rules, specimen routing, and workflow configurations.
- Coordinate system downtime procedures and disaster recovery planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve LIS-related issues in a timely manner.
Interface and Systems Integration
- Manage laboratory interfaces with electronic medical records (EMR), practice management systems, analyzers, and third-party vendors.
- Collaborate with IT teams and vendors to develop, maintain, and troubleshoot interfaces.
- Monitor interface performance and ensure accurate transmission of laboratory data.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure LIS compliance with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and applicable state regulations.
- Participate in laboratory inspections and accreditation activities.
- Develop and maintain system validation documentation and change control records.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and data integrity monitoring.
Leadership & Project Management
- Lead laboratory technology projects, software implementations, upgrades, and workflow improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with laboratory leadership to identify operational efficiencies and automation opportunities.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for laboratory informatics and system functionality.
Training & Support
- Develop and deliver training programs for laboratory personnel and end users.
- Create and maintain system documentation, procedures, and user guides.
- Provide ongoing technical support to laboratory staff and physician office personnel.
Reporting & Analytics
- Develop and maintain laboratory operational, quality, productivity, and compliance reports.
- Analyze data trends and provide recommendations to laboratory leadership.
- Support laboratory billing, outreach, and management reporting needs.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Systems integration?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Minimum 3 years of LIS administration or laboratory informatics experience.
- Working knowledge of laboratory workflows including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, and specimen processing.
- Experience supporting laboratory instrument interfaces and EMR integrations.
- Strong understanding of CLIA, HIPAA, and laboratory regulatory requirements.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and project management skills.
Preferred
- ASCP certification (MLS/MT) or equivalent.
- Experience with physician office laboratory operations.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience with laboratory billing systems and revenue cycle workflows.
- Knowledge of SQL, report writing, and healthcare data analytics.
