Job description

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Design, engineer, implement and maintain enterprise network and communications infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, wireless, VoIP, collaboration platforms and co-located data center connectivity.
  • With guidance under the Network Services Manager, serve as primary architect and subject matter expert for enterprise network initiatives.
  • Design and support Cisco Nexus data center fabrics, including core, distribution and access-layer designs.
  • Support resilient edge connectivity and SD-WAN solutions, including Peplink platforms with LTE/5G failover and bandwidth bonding for continuity and emergency operations.
  • Design, document and maintain network, telecommunications, data flow, logical, physical, and as-built diagrams, including on-premise and co-located environments.
  • Install, configure, support and manage network and security infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, authentication services, and secure inter-site connectivity.
  • Engineer and manage redundant connectivity, carrier circuits, private Ethernet links, and BGP-based routing.
  • Administers and supports the County's Cisco AnyConnect VPN infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable remote access for County staff and partners.
  • Research, evaluate and recommend new technologies related to network, telecom, and collaboration.
  • Manage structured cabling and fiber infrastructure within data centers, co-located facilities as well as IDF and MDF areas.
  • Analyze network performance, availability and capacity; identify bottlenecks, risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term corrective action solutions.
  • Interface and consult with suppliers, service vendors and staff to maximize the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the systems.
  • Maintain telephone systems services including move/add/change/delete, voicemail, auto attendant and integrated voice response.
  • Serve as technical liaison with communication carriers, service providers and contractors.
  • Participate in the budget process with regard to infrastructure upgrades, carrier services, renewals and lifecycle replacement.
  • Ensure network and communication systems meet all regulatory and security requirements; disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Attend meetings, trainings and forums as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) configuration?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, Four-year degree in Computer Information Systems; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum seven years of experience:

  • Route/switch, wireless and security of local and wide area networks including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, implementation, and user support.
  • Cisco Nexus data center fabrics
  • Cisco Catalyst switches
  • Cisco Next-Gen Firewalls with Firepower Threat Defense
  • Cisco ISE Identity Service Engine.
  • Cisco WLAN products and diagnostic tools.
  • Designing, configuration, setup, troubleshooting, implementing and supporting Cisco IP telephony.
  • Cisco VOIP, QOS, Call Manager, Unity and UCCX.
  • Cisco TACACS/ISE
  • OSPF, EIGRP and BGP and other interior/exterior gateway protocols.
  • AD, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Peplink SD-WAN platforms with LTE/5G failover and edge resiliency
  • NetMotion Mobility VPN, * Complete CJIS Awareness Training Level 4 every two years
  • Valid TX Driver's License
  • Must maintain CJIS compliance
