Job description

The Systems Administrator V performs advanced computer systems administration work as a Microsoft Windows/Red Hat Linux Administrator for the State of Texas HHSC TIERS operational infrastructure department. The role coordinates the planning, architecture, and engineering of the TIERS systems infrastructure. This includes the implementation and configurations of hardware and software components to meet the needs of the organization and monitor the performance of these systems. Collaborates with TIERS Operations and Application Teams to ensure infrastructures are effectively deployed to support the TIERS System. Provides Windows Server 2016+ and Linux 8+ system administration for servers in a 24x7 high-availability environment. Administers security controls and system hardening including implementing corrective actions, remediation activities, and plans of action for security control compliance; supports system and security audits by providing validation and evidence that controls are properly implemented.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

Coordinates the planning, architecture, and engineering of the TIERS systems infrastructure. This includes the implementation, development, testing, and configurations of hardware and software components to meet the needs of the organization and monitor the performance of these systems. Collaboration with TIERS Operations and Application Teams to ensure infrastructures are effectively deployed to support the TIERS System. Coordinates, develops, prepares and retains operational procedures, policies, technical support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and system administration methods. (25%)

Provides Windows Server 2016+ and Linux 8+ system administration for servers in a high-availability environment. Provides network and storage administration related to Windows and Linux platforms. Provides configuration and upgrade support for a wide variety of applications and services on these servers, including but not limited to LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol), Windows Active Directory, DNS, Microsoft SQL (Structured Query Language) Server, and Hypervisor experience with Hyper-V and VMware, printer services, and backup services. (25%)

Provides server and application support on a 24X7 on call basis and on a rotating schedule; provides support to applications team in installation, configuration and troubleshooting of various applications in TIERS. Monitors system performance and availability to ensure uptime and reliability of critical services. Escalates and coordinates resolution of high priority incidents to minimize business impact. (20%)

Plans and coordinates server maintenance activities including security patching and other activities related to the TIERS Security Program. Schedules maintenance windows and communicates impacts to stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to operations. Verifies successful completion of maintenance activities and documents outcomes for compliance tracking. (10%)

Administers security controls and hardening within TIERS; implements security control plan of actions, corrective actions, implementation of security controls, and remediations. Responds to system and security audits and association evidence controls are implemented. Assists agency in maintaining suite of security tools. (10%)

Analyzes and troubleshoots Windows and Linux system problems and provides consultation on complex projects. Performs root cause analysis and documents findings to prevent recurrence of issues. Recommends system improvements and optimizations based on performance and reliability trends. (5%)

Opens and responds to incidents, problem calls, changes, and work requests from the TIERS Operations ticketing system. Ensures timely updates and accurate documentation within the ticketing system throughout the lifecycle of each request. Prioritizes workload based on severity and service level expectations to meet operational targets. (5%), Experience supporting Windows and Linux server operating systems in large data center environment., To be considered for this position, applicants must reside in Austin, Texas, or a surrounding city and be able to report to the office on all scheduled in office workdays. Only candidates located in Austin or the surrounding areas who can meet this in office reporting requirement will be considered.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Linux support?, Knowledge of network facilities and data processing techniques, computer hardware and software, network operations and security software, and performance monitoring and capacity management tools.

Skill in Hypervisors such as Hyper-V, VMware, Nutanix AHV (Acropolis Hypervisor) and RedHat OpenShift

Skill in Dell VxRail system, network administration, Microsoft SQL Server, IT Governance, and Security/Privacy policies and tools.

Knowledge of supporting the following systems: Globalscape SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol), IBM WebSphere, Spectrum, Adobe Experience Manager and Kofax.

Ability to direct and organize work activities.

Ability to identify problems/issues, analyze and evaluate alternatives, recommend and implement effective solutions.

Ability to prepare concise written reports appropriate to the audience.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to develop automation using Ansible or similar tools.

Ability to provide consultation on complex projects.

Skill in Helix(Remedy) and/or Service Now.

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Foundation Certification preferred

Windows and Linux server certifications are preferred

AWS (Amazon Web Services) or Azure cloud certifications are preferred
