The Maine Democratic Party (MDP) is seeking a strategic data staffer to serve as our Deputy Data Director for the 2026 election cycle. The Deputy Data Director is a role responsible for building and executing the data strategy for the statewide coordinated campaign. This role supports the Data Director in managing the voter file, modeling, targeting, analytics, and reporting infrastructure to support voter contact programs and drive data-informed decision-making across campaigns and stakeholders.
About the Opportunity The Data Director will develop and maintain data tools and processes to support the 2026 Coordinated Campaign in a battleground state. They will work with stakeholders, partners, and campaigns to create, oversee, and support a data program for statewide operations. Responsibilities will generally include:
- Support the creation and maintenance of automated and one-off reports that provide
updates and evaluation of coordinated campaign programs, including organizing, direct voter contact, and voter access
- Under the Data Director's guidance, work with stakeholders and other coordinated
campaign departments to collect and generate data analytics that provide actionable insights and clear goals
- Support the use of VAN and other volunteer and voter contact tools, including
developing trainings, best practices, and supporting the implementation of data standards and stable data pipelines
- Assist the Data Director to create targeted volunteer and voter contact universes
tailored for specific contact modes

Work with the Data Director and data team to develop and refine modeling

Help analyze voter contact and volunteer recruitment program results, and present
relevant findings and recommendations to state coordinated campaign leadership
- Assist in building and maintaining data systems, pipelines, and integrations across
campaign tools
- Aid with other duties as needed, including potentially hiring and staff management
responsibilities
- Help train and support for staff, campaigns, and partners on VAN and data tools, a week required in MDP's Portland HQ office except when needed in MDP's Augusta and Bangor offices or such other offices as may be opened. Additional in-person meetings and event-based work across the state required as needed. This position will be routinely expected to work nights and weekends and over 60 hours per week.

Requirements
Do you have experience in Predictive modeling analysis?, The Coordinated Campaign Deputy Data Director will support campaign program operations in a variety of ways, requiring both data and analytics fluency and an ability to work and collaborate in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- One cycle doing analytics work in an electoral campaign is required; one or more
cycles in a leadership role in statewide campaigns in data and analytics at the Deputy Associate level is preferred

Prior analytics, targeting, modeling or reporting experience is required

Advanced knowledge of VAN, along with Excel or Google Sheets, is required

Familiarity with predictive models, probabilities, and their application to voter
targeting is required

Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences is required

Intermediate SQL experience is required; advanced experience in a professional
setting is preferred
- Experience using coding languages like R or Python for analyzing large datasets and
performing statistical analysis is preferred
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Shiny is
recommended
- Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills, with an ability to develop concrete,
implementable plans
- Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize across multiple work
streams and meet tight timelines
