We are opening a new Portland Kidney Center in 2026 and Northwest Kidney Centers is hiring an Facility Systems Specialist 2 to join our new kidney center in Portland, OR. This position will be in-person., Purpose: The Facility Systems Specialist II (FSS II) is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of facility systems supporting dialysis treatment. This includes water treatment systems, dialysis equipment, acid concentrate delivery systems, and facility infrastructure. The FSS ensures safe, reliable operations while supporting staff training, emergency preparedness, vendor coordination, and overall facility management in alignment with NKC standards and regulatory requirements., Water Treatment & Dialysis Systems Management
- Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment systems in accordance with AAMI Standards, NKC policies, CMS Conditions for Coverage, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Manage acid concentrate production and preparation/delivery systems, including calibration, maintenance, and required testing (e.g., specific gravity).
- Maintain dialysis equipment (e.g., Dialog machines, Aquaboss) and ancillary systems through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair coordination, operational and AAMI standard environmental testing.
- Oversee inline chlorine systems, including routine maintenance, monitoring, alarm response, and reporting findings to the Medical Director.
Facility Operations & Vendor Management
- Coordinate and manage facility vendors (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, housekeeping, linen, security, etc.), including service requests, follow-up, escalation, and documentation.
- Support physical facility operations, including general repairs maintenance, replacing lights, checking building systems, and seasonal maintenance (e.g., snow removal, ice mitigation), in coordination with Plant Operations.
- Identify and report equipment issues, including patient treatment chairs, and perform minor repairs as appropriate.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Support
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation, including system logs (RO, chlorine, timers), work orders, and compliance records.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, including preparation and attendance at monthly meetings.
- Support product recall coordination and resolution of product complaints at the facility level.
- Perform required inspections, including annual electrical safety checks of designated equipment.
- Complete all required training by assigned deadlines.
- Ensures all regulatory and OSHA requirements are met.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
- Conduct routine safety inspections, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and emergency equipment.
- Perform and document fire drills and ensure follow-up on identified improvement actions.
- Maintain and audit emergency supplies, including backup equipment and emergency materials.
- Perform preventive maintenance and monitoring of backup generators.
Supply Chain & Inventory Management
- Manage facility inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and tracking clinical, operational, and emergency supplies.
- Coordinate special purchases through NKC Purchasing and ensure availability of essential materials.
Training & Staff Support
- Provide training and onboarding support for new FSS staff.
- Educate clinical staff (Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse/Dialysis Technician) on water treatment, acid delivery systems, ancillary equipment, and dialysis machine operation.
- Conduct and document annual competency assessments for designated staff.
Team Participation & Coverage
- Actively participate in weekly FSS huddles and monthly FSS and Biomed staff meetings.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide coverage for additional duties during staff absences.
Professional Conduct & Communication
- Maintain a high level of professionalism in interactions with staff, patients, physicians, and vendors.
- Communicate effectively with leadership, including Clinical Managers, Medical Directors, and support departments.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Clinical Support Services or Support Services Leadership.

Staff are responsible for demonstrating good customer service and professionalism.
Working Conditions
- Duties are performed in a clinical dialysis environment.
- Exposure to chemical fumes (e.g., bleach), blood, and other body fluids is expected.
- Work may involve temperature variations and confined spaces.
- Must be comfortable working with patients with infectious conditions, including Hepatitis B and HIV, and patients requiring isolation, following NKC guidelines.
- Proof of Hepatitis B and measles vaccination or immunity is required. Annual influenza shots are required.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Math?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Completion of high school diploma or GED.
- Coursework and demonstrated knowledge or experience in mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, chemistry, physics, and/or electronics.
- Preferred:
- Associate (AA) degree in a science, technical field or maintenance field.
- Prior dialysis or healthcare facility experience performing equipment repairs or maintenance.
- Certified Biomedical Nephrology Technologist (CBNT), or Certified Hemodialysis Bio-Medical Technician (CHBT), or Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).

Complete training for certification of B Braun Aquaboss or other RO system, B Braun Dialog dialysis machine or other dialysis machine, and Fresenius Accumix equipment or other acid concentrate mixer.

Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally, in writing, and over the telephone.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with clinical software systems.

Demonstrated competency in water treatment and concentrate systems, maintained through regular testing and evaluation.

Knowledge of and adherence to ESRD and applicable state regulatory requirements.

Valid State driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation for travel between units, on call duties, and travel to purchase materials needed to carry out duties., * Ability to climb, balance, crawl, push, pull, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday.

Frequent use of hands for grasping, fingering, and repetitive motion tasks.

Requires strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Must have sufficient visual acuity to read technical documents, monitors, gauges, dials, and test strips, including the ability to distinguish colors (color perception testing may be required).
