Software Engineer and AI Integration Developer

Unison Systems is looking for a skilled Software Engineer and AI Integration Developer for our client located in Newport News, VA. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain software solutions while integrating modern AI capabilities into production applications. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable features that meet evolving business needs. This contract-to-hire opportunity offers strong potential for long-term growth with a forward-thinking client., * Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications across the full development lifecycle.

• Integrate AI and machine learning capabilities into new and existing applications.
• Build and consume APIs to connect internal systems with AI services and third-party tools.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code following established best practices.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in development and production environments.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards.
• Stay current with emerging AI tools, frameworks, and development techniques.

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages.
• Experience integrating AI, machine learning, or large language model capabilities into applications.
• Strong understanding of API design, development, and integration.
• Solid grasp of software engineering fundamentals, including version control and testing.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

• Experience with cloud platforms and deploying applications at scale.
• Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and toolkits.
• Experience working in a remote, distributed team environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
