Job description

SBS is expanding its AWS Professional Services partnership to support a U.S. Combatant Command in Stuttgart, Germany. As a Senior AWS Data Migration Engineer, you will help the customer move large-scale, mission-critical data and workloads into AWS classified regions while minimizing operational disruption.

You will work alongside AWS architects and command stakeholders to plan, execute, and optimize migrations across discovery, assessment, planning, cutover, and post-migration tuning. This is an OCONUS assignment with relocation support subject to contract authorization and SBS policy. Assignment eligibility is subject to applicable Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), host-nation, and U.S. military installation credentialing requirements., * Lead AWS data migration efforts spanning discovery, assessment, planning, execution, and post-migration optimization.

Design and implement migration strategies for large-scale (multi-TB to PB) datasets and dependent applications.

Execute data movement using AWS S3, Snowball / Snowball Edge, AWS DataSync, Storage Gateway, and EBS.

Assess current on-premises environments (compute, storage, network) and recommend appropriate migration patterns (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire).

Plan and execute cutover strategies that minimize downtime and operational disruption.

Diagnose and resolve migration issues related to throughput, connectivity, latency, and data integrity.

Requirements

Six (6) or more years of experience in data migration, infrastructure transformation, or cloud adoption.

Proficiency with AWS core services: S3, EC2, EBS, VPC, and IAM.

Hands-on experience with storage, data replication, and backup/recovery technologies.

Strong networking fundamentals: VPNs, routing, DNS, and bandwidth-constrained transport.

Willingness and ability to relocate to and live in Stuttgart, Germany for the duration of the assignment.

Ability to satisfy applicable SOFA, host-nation, U.S. military installation, and base-access credentialing requirements.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent professional experience.

Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation, stakeholder coordination, and customer-facing delivery.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Multi-terabyte (or larger) migration delivery experience.

Hands-on experience with AWS migration tools: AWS DataSync, Snowball / Snowball Edge, Storage Gateway, AWS DMS, AWS MGN.

Federal or defense-customer delivery experience, particularly in OCONUS or Combatant Command environments.

Hybrid or multi-cloud migration experience.

Enterprise storage platform experience: NetApp ONTAP, Dell EMC, Pure Storage.

Exposure to AWS GovCloud (US) and DoD Impact Level 4 / 5 / 6 environments.
