Software Developer

We are seeking a Senior Developer to join a software engineering team responsible for building and operating a modern Azure-based platform alongside on-premise solutions in the Rail sector.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on the design, development, support, and continuous improvement of software solutions, with a strong emphasis on Kubernetes, C#/.NET, and contributing to the adoption of AI-driven capabilities across products and services.

You will play a key role in the ongoing development of the technical platform, ensuring solutions remain scalable, secure, and fit for purpose, while supporting the use of emerging technologies, including AI and intelligent automation, where these can add real value., Software Development

• Develop and maintain high-quality software solutions using existing and emerging engineering methods.
• Design, build, test, and support applications and services using C#/.NET and associated technologies.

Technical Delivery

• Contribute to the delivery of both cloud-based and on-premise solutions.
• Build and maintain applications in containerised environments, including exposure to Kubernetes and related tooling.

Engineering Standards

• Follow best practice for coding standards, security, compliance, and overall system resilience.
• Produce clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in line with modern software engineering principles.

DevOps & Platform Contribution

• Work within established CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices to support efficient and reliable software delivery.
• Support the improvement of engineering standards, development processes, and platform capability.

Feature Delivery & Platform Stability

• Balance efficient delivery of new feature development with platform stability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
• Contribute to the delivery of secure, scalable, and resilient solutions that meet business and customer needs.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with colleagues across engineering and wider business teams to troubleshoot issues, deliver enhancements, and support platform improvements.
• Contribute to technical discussions, solution design, and continuous improvement across the full development lifecycle.

Innovation

• Support the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies and development patterns to keep the platform modern, effective, and competitive., * Contribute to the continued evolution of AI and ML capabilities, ensuring responsible and secure adoption where appropriate.
• Identify opportunities where AI can improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and developer productivity.

• Proven experience in a Software Developer / Senior Developer / Software Engineer role.
• Strong hands-on development experience using C# and .NET / .NET Core.
• Experience working with Azure-based applications and services.
• Experience of working with containerised environments, including Kubernetes and/or Docker.
• Good understanding of software engineering best practice, including coding standards, testing, version control, and documentation.
• Experience of working with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern deployment approaches.
• Ability to develop and support scalable, secure, and maintainable applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a technical team and engage effectively with stakeholders where required., * Experience working across both cloud and on-premise solutions.
• Experience of microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of platform resilience, security, and compliance considerations.
