Job description

We're looking for a Data Engineer III to take the lead on the systems and standards that turn raw data into a product people can actually rely on. This isn't a keep-the-lights-on role. You'll set direction, own architecture, and shape how data flows to both our BI tools and our AI consumers. If you treat data as a craft and hold a high bar for quality, you'll feel right at home.

Why join us? Why you'll want to work here:

We believe great work happens when people are trusted, supported, and given room to do the best work of their careers. We back that up:

  • Flexible work-from-home arrangements
  • 401(k) match
  • Flexible vacation
  • Medical / Dental / Vision
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave (US)
  • Technical stipend
  • Professional development programs
  • Wellness programs

Job Details What you'll do:

  • Lead end to end. Design, build, test, deploy, and continuously improve advanced data pipelines and engineering solutions.
  • Drive real impact. Prioritize and deliver multiple high-stakes projects without dropping the ball on quality.
  • Make quality non-negotiable. Establish data quality standards with automated tests, anomaly detection, and freshness SLAs.
  • Own the modeling layer. Write and govern canonical dbt models in Snowflake using dimensional modeling principles - standardizing patterns, - enforcing testing and documentation, and managing project structure across domains.
  • Define one source of truth. Build and maintain a consistent semantic layer - metric definitions, business logic, and entity relationships - so everything stays aligned across Looker, our MCP server, and AI consumers, no matter the tooling.
  • Strengthen the foundation. Spot infrastructure improvements that cut cost, boost reliability, and eliminate single points of failure.
  • Keep the platform humming. Support Snowflake and Looker administration alongside the rest of the data platform team.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or a related field - or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 5+ years in data engineering, with a proven track record designing, building, and maintaining ELT pipelines and dimensional models in production.
  • Deep experience processing and integrating large-scale data from many sources.
  • Advanced SQL - complex joins, CTEs, the works.
  • Strong hands-on Snowflake experience (admin experience is a nice bonus, not a must).
  • Production-grade dbt chops: model development, testing, documentation, and project governance.
  • Solid coding skills in Python, Java, or a similar language.
  • Comfort with Git-based version control and CI/CD for data infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or similar).
  • A genuine sense of data ownership - you treat data as a product and refuse to compromise on reliability.

Bonus points for:

  • Data observability and lineage tooling.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML.
  • Experience building a semantic layer or canonical data model with consistent metric and entity definitions.
  • Looker development or administration.
  • A background in e-commerce, retail analytics, or SaaS data platforms.
