Job description

The Professional Services Engineer II (E2) is an experienced implementation engineer responsible for delivering client-facing infrastructure and technology projects with minimal supervision. This role serves as a technical lead on moderately complex engagements and partners closely with Technical Program Managers, Solutions Operations, Account Management, and Support to ensure successful project execution.

Professional Services Engineers are LeafTech's Design and Implementation Authority. They translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions, execute deployments according to best practices, and ensure clients are transitioned smoothly into ongoing operations.

An E2 engineer is expected to independently own project delivery, mentor junior engineers when appropriate, proactively identify risks, and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and automation.., Project Delivery

  • Lead technical implementation of infrastructure and cloud projects from kickoff through completion.
  • Execute deployments in accordance with approved designs and project plans.
  • Deliver projects that meet scope, timeline, quality, and documentation requirements.
  • Identify technical risks early and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in project planning and technical discovery sessions.
  • Perform solution validation and post-implementation testing.
  • Ensure successful client acceptance and production readiness.

Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering

Implement and support projects involving technologies such as:

  • Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft 365
  • Windows Server
  • VMware and Hyper-V
  • Active Directory and Entra ID
  • Intune and endpoint management
  • Networking (switching, routing, wireless)
  • Firewalls and security appliances
  • Storage platforms
  • Backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Identity and access management
  • DNS, DHCP, PKI, VPN, and related services

Client Engagement

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor during project execution.
  • Communicate effectively with client stakeholders at both technical and business levels.
  • Translate technical concepts into understandable business outcomes.
  • Provide implementation guidance and knowledge transfer.
  • Maintain professionalism during onsite and remote engagements.
  • Build strong client relationships through accountability and execution excellence.

Documentation & Standards

  • Produce accurate implementation documentation.
  • Update IT Glue and other documentation repositories.
  • Create runbooks and standard operating procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintain configuration documentation for deployed solutions.
  • Ensure documentation supports operational ownership after project completion.

AI, Automation & Continuous Improvement

AI and automation are considered core competencies for this role.

Professional Services Engineers are expected to:

  • Develop Python, PowerShell, or other automation scripts to improve deployment consistency.
  • Leverage approved AI tools to improve engineering efficiency and support automation initiatives.
  • Standardize repeatable implementation activities.
  • Reduce manual effort through tooling and process improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to automate onboarding, migrations, and operational tasks.
  • Share reusable automation assets with the engineering team.
  • Continuously evaluate new tools and technologies that improve service delivery, quality, and operational efficiency.

Automation experience is required.

Participate in cross-functional planning to ensure successful project outcomes and seamless transitions into support.

Change Management

Execute project work in alignment with LeafTech's ITIL-based Change Enablement process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and documenting changes appropriately
  • Following Standard, Normal, and Emergency Change procedures
  • Participating in CAB activities when required
  • Developing rollback plans for significant implementations
  • Validating successful change completion
  • Ensuring production changes are communicated effectively

Project Handoff

Support successful operational transition by:

  • Completing technical documentation
  • Validating monitoring and alerting configuration
  • Ensuring support teams understand deployed solutions
  • Participating in warm handoffs
  • Resolving post-deployment issues during transition periods

Requirements

  • 3-6+ years of infrastructure engineering or professional services experience
  • Experience leading technical implementations
  • Strong understanding of Windows Server administration
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365
  • Experience with Active Directory and Entra ID
  • Networking knowledge including routing, switching, VLANs, and firewalls
  • Experience with virtualization platforms
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery technologies
  • Strong Python, PowerShell, or equivalent automation skills
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to improve productivity, documentation, scripting, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Experience working directly with clients
  • Ability to travel occasionally for onsite engagements
