Job description

Job Summary: Provide support for all network infrastructure for Sul Ross State University campuses located in Alpine, Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Uvalde campuses. Including but not limited to server updates, network switch upgrades, configurations, network cable runs, wireless arrays installations, firewalls, backup appliances, VoIP/ATA management, and camera security management and configuration.

Expectation of Quality: Employee will support the mission of Sul Ross State University by providing high-quality, professional services, timely responses, and solutions to customer requests.

Requirements

  • Associates in Information Technology, Computer Science, related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience supporting network infrastructure, wireless systems or enterprise technology environments.
  • Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience supporting network infrastructure in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with Juniper, Mist, Barracuda, Cisco, Xirrus or other enterprise networking equipment.
  • Familiarity with wireless network management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Azure/Entra environments.
  • Knowledge of network monitoring and management tools.
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Experience with structured cabling standards and network documentation ., * Knowledge of network infrastructure concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, wireless networking, network security.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems, Microsoft Windows operating systems, Active Directory, Microsoft 365 environments, basic server, endpoint management, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling standards and network hardware installation practices, diagnosing and resolving network connectivity and hardware issues.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity awareness and best practices.
  • Knowledge of security camera systems, management, mounting.
  • Knowledge of VoIP phone systems.
  • Skill in configuring and maintaining network devices and related equipment.
  • Skill in providing technical support to users in a professional and customer-focused manner, documenting technical procedures, incidents, and system changes, using network monitoring, remote support, and ticketing systems.
  • Skill in prioritizing multiple tasks and responding effectively to service requests.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical users, work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment, and learn and adapt to new technologies and systems quickly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow institutional policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to support multiple campus and remote locations when needed.
  • Ability to respond to emergency or after-hours support situations as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders for extended periods of time, lift, carry, and install equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces such as server rooms, network closets, catwalks, and under desks.
  • Ability to work in environments with moderate noise levels and varying temperatures associated with equipment rooms and data centers.

Working Conditions: Security Sensitive Lifting up to 50lbs Climbing and working on ladders up to 15ft Working in confined spaces, and catwalk areas Standing and/or sitting for extended time periods Travel to other campuses Respond to after-hours emergencies or after hour scheduled maintenance when required Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting Network cable runs which will include using a ladder and walking up and down for multiple days to finish.
