Job description
This role focuses on developing and maintaining robust embedded C software within a structured development environment. You will work with existing systems, take ownership of legacy codebases, and contribute to the full software development life cycle from concept to completion. The position involves close collaboration across components and vendors to ensure seamless system integration and reliable operation.
Responsibilities

Write solid, reliable, and efficient embedded C code for embedded systems.

Work within a structured software development environment and follow defined processes and standards.

Jump into existing systems and legacy codebases to understand, maintain, and enhance functionality.

Take ownership of legacy code, including refactoring, updating, and improving long-term maintainability.

Participate in the full software development life cycle (SDLC), from initial concept and design through implementation, testing, integration, and deployment.

Perform static code analysis to identify defects, vulnerabilities, and quality issues, and implement appropriate fixes.

Apply a strong code quality mindset by adhering to coding standards, conducting thorough reviews, and implementing best practices.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to integrate software components across systems.

Debug complex issues across components and systems, identifying root causes and implementing robust solutions.

Consider networking and cybersecurity aspects when designing and implementing embedded software solutions.

Document designs, implementation details, and changes to ensure clear communication and maintainability., The role operates within a structured software development environment that emphasizes process, code quality, and disciplined engineering practices. You will work primarily with embedded C and systems integration software, using static code analysis tools and other quality-focused technologies. The position involves frequent interaction with cross-functional teams and external vendors to integrate and debug systems across components. Work hours and location follow standard professional office or engineering lab expectations, with a focus on collaborative problem-solving and continuous improvement of existing systems and legacy codebases.
Requirements

Proven ability to write solid embedded C code for embedded systems.

Experience working within a structured software development environment and following formal SDLC processes.

Hands-on experience with legacy code and codebase ownership, including maintenance and enhancement.

Strong understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) from concept to completion.

Experience with systems integration software and integrating components across multiple systems.

Demonstrated use of static code analysis tools and techniques to improve code quality.

Strong code quality mindset with focus on reliability, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.

Integration mindset across systems and vendors, with the ability to collaborate effectively.

Benefits & conditions
This is a Contract position based out of Bridgeton, MO.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $42.00 - $44.00/hr.
