Cloud Solutions Engineer

Under the general direction of the Production and Test Manager (Information Technology Manager I), the Cloud Solutions Engineer (IT Specialist II) will oversee and lead the design, implementation, and operations of robust and highly available cloud infrastructure solutions. The Cloud Solutions Engineer is responsible for managing both primary and disaster recovery sites in the cloud, ensuring seamless operation and resilience. This role focuses on fine-tuning performance and optimizing costs to achieve maximum efficiency., Interested individuals must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) in addition to the standard state application (form STD 678). Your SOQ will be considered the first interview for this position. If your qualifications are competitive, you will be invited to an interview. When completing the SOQ, please include all relevant experience, education, and training, as applicable, and explain all answers thoroughly. 4. Provide an example of a challenging technical issue you faced in a cloud infrastructure project. How did you troubleshoot the problem, and what was the outcome?

CalSTRS Personal Trading Program

Investment Branch employees are required to participate in the CalSTRS Personal Trading Program which allows CalSTRS to monitor employees' personal trading transactions in order to reduce risks associated with insider trading, front running, and misusing material non-public information. Background Investigation

• Extensive experience in architecting, deploying, and managing cloud solutions, preferably within Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other major cloud providers.

• Proficiency in designing network architectures, including virtual private clouds (VPCs), subnets, VPNs, and hybrid connectivity solutions.

• Experience in developing and implementing disaster recovery strategies and high-availability systems to ensure minimal downtime.

• Familiarity with automation tools and methodologies for provisioning and configuration management, including infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.

• Proven ability to analyze and optimize cloud resource usage and costs, along with implementing cost-effective strategies across cloud infrastructures.

• Strong skills in creating and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation, with experience working with internal and external audit firms to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Knowledge of emerging AI technologies and their application in infrastructure maintenance and optimization, with the ability to work with AI teams on relevant initiatives.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees' monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program.
