Job description
Job Goal: The Data and Compliance Specialist is responsible for student data management, state reporting, regulatory compliance, and administration of the Aspen student information system. This position ensures the integrity, security, accuracy, and accessibility of student, staff, and operational data while supporting district decision-making, accountability initiatives, and state and federal reporting requirements., * Serve as the district administrator for Aspen.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SIS modules including enrollment, attendance, scheduling, grading, transcripts, discipline, and parent portals.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, security roles, and system access.
- Coordinate SIS upgrades, testing, and implementation of new features.
- Provide technical support and training to school and district staff.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, procedures, and user guides.
Data Management and Analytics
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of student, staff, and program data.
- Design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using tools such as Excel, OpenArchitects, or other data visualization platforms.
- Support district strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and reporting.
- Perform data validation, auditing, and quality-control processes.
State Reporting and Compliance
- Coordinate all required state and federal reporting submissions.
- Manage Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) reporting requirements, including: SIMS, SCS, EPIMS, and SSDR.
- Monitor changes in reporting requirements and ensure district compliance.
- Conduct regular audits to identify and correct data discrepancies prior to submissions.
- Support district preparation for state, federal, and program audits.
Data Governance and Security
- Ensure compliance with: FERPA, IDEA, Section 504, State student privacy regulations, and District data governance policies, etc.
- Maintain secure handling and transmission of sensitive student and employee information.
- Develop and implement data governance standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with IT staff on cybersecurity, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
Collaboration and Training
- Serve as the primary liaison between schools, district departments, technology teams, and external vendors regarding data systems.
- Provide training and professional development related to data entry, reporting, compliance, and SIS functionality.
- Support principals and district leaders in interpreting and utilizing data for instructional and operational decision-making.
- Participate in district committees and initiatives related to accountability, technology, and data governance.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Student record keeping?, * Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Education, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience administering student information systems, educational databases, or district data systems.
- Experience with Aspen, PowerSchool, SchoolBrains, Infinite Campus, or comparable K12 SIS platforms.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, database management, reporting tools, and advanced Excel functions.
- Experience with educational data analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of FERPA and student data privacy requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict reporting deadlines.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), * Experience with Massachusetts DESE reporting processes and accountability systems.
- Knowledge of educational technology integrations, APIs, and data exchange standards.
- Project management experience.

Salary: $90 -110k, commensurate with experience.
