Job description

The Computer Operations Manager serves as the technology leader for the district. Provides vision and leadership for implementation and maintenance of information technology initiatives to improve staff and student collaboration and growth while exhibiting cost effectiveness and accountability. Provides leadership and guidance to all district faculty and staff regarding all aspects of technology. Supervises and manages the technology department.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

· Plan, organize, direct and schedule computer operations, data control and data entry.

· Coordinate operations in determining hardware and software needs and development plans to meet District objectives and needs while maintaining cost effectiveness.

· Serves as technology liaison between the district and the Office of Educational Technology (OET), Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), and US Department of Education (DOE), universities, vendors, and community partners.

· Serves as district's CIO - Chief Information Officer

· Submits various technology reports including but not limited to E-rate, technology plans, annual device reporting, and all other regulatory reports

· Assist in long and short range planning for the technology department

· Communicate effectively and timely with faculty, staff, and appropriate end-user via oral and/or written communication.

· Assist with deliveries as needed.

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor(s), administrators, teachers, students, employees and/or community members.

· Learn new computer techniques, programs, and configurations from documentation and oral descriptions.

· Plan and organize work to meet specific timelines.

· Maintain records and prepare reports, including but not limited to extensive inventory management.

· Maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field, knowledge of coding, networking, various operating systems, and date security traffic.

· Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

· Adheres to the professional code of ethics

· Train, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff.

· Allocate technical and operational resources to meet District goals and work alongside building principals to help meet school goals.

· Direct the software environment to assure adequate and continued operational support; provide structure to assure adequate hardware and software capabilities.

· Provide consultation in the design and implementation of new or modified systems; develop, modify and maintain procedures and controls to assure the accuracy of a variety of data.

· Evaluate and assist in software and hardware platforms. Ensure documentation of systems, configurations, and setup of all systems are in place and up to date.

· Coordinate with vendors to maintain systems, both hardware and software, to assure accessibility; schedule preventive and corrective maintenance; review attempted accesses to the system to assure security.

· Respond to emergency calls as necessary regarding technology issues and respond accordingly.

· Maintain "the environment" to promote security, safety, and reliability of district's hardware and software.

· Maintain password security practices for authorized access to computers and local area networks.

· Maintain and/or coordinate maintenance of date integrity for all on-premises and off-premises systems including but not limited to databases, users, backups, and other systems data.

· Ensure proper backup of user and system data to maintain data integrity to prevent data loss.

· Formulates purchase specifications and authorizes expenditures for technology operations to support District needs including but not limited to fine arts, athletics, and instruction.

· Takes an active role in solving technology problems occurring within the District including but not limited to internet service, phone systems, fire alarms, security cameras/systems, and various audio visual equipment.

· Coordinates informational meetings within the department and other end-users, as needed.

· All other responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor and/or Superintendent.

· Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, State and local codes, regulations and requirements.

· Demonstrates loyalty and dedication to the purposes and goals of the Daviess County Public Schools.

ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment:

Subject to both indoor, environmentally controlled and outdoor environments. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises. Travel amongst building locations required. Will require working with or near public, parents, and children and will be subject to sounds, scents, and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.

Physical Demands:

  1. Standing, walking, sitting, reaching, talking, bending, pushing, and moving throughout the day

  2. Some physical demand with some lifting of 50 lbs or more

  3. Repetitive movements

  4. Hand and finger dexterity

Travel Requirements:

Daily as needed within district boundaries

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel. The evaluation will be conducted by the Director of Finance.

Requirements

Required:

· Five years of experience, Bachelor's Degree preferred

· Successful supervisory experiences

· Must hold valid driver's license

· Knowledge of school system policies and procedures

Knowledge Of:

· Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites.

· Appropriate health and safety precautions and procedures.

· Technical aspects of fields of specialty.

· Federal, State and local building codes and regulations.

Benefits & conditions

Commensurate with salary range on the DCPS Salary Schedule for class code 7506

Hours Per Day: 8.0

Contracted Days: 261 Days/Year
