Job description

The Business Analyst (HL7) serves as a liaison between operational stakeholders, clinical teams, vendors, and technical integration resources to support healthcare interoperability initiatives across the enterprise. This role is responsible for gathering business and technical requirements, analyzing clinical and operational workflows, and supporting the implementation and optimization of HL7-based integrations between EMR, ancillary, and enterprise systems. The position requires foundational knowledge of HL7 messaging standards, healthcare workflows, and integration processes, along with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

This is a Remote Position. Candidates can be located in any state EXCEPT NY, NJ, IL, and CA.

What You'll Do

  • Gather, analyze, and document business, operational, and technical requirements for HL7 integration initiatives

  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to understand workflow and interoperability needs

  • Develop and maintenance of interface specifications, mapping documentation, and workflow diagrams

  • Conduct integration testing activities including system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and message validation

  • Partner with HL7 developers, application teams, vendors, and architects to support interface implementations and issue resolution

  • Analyze interface issues, workflow gaps, and operational impacts and assist with identifying corrective actions

  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and facilitate discussions to clarify business requirements and project objectives

  • Monitor project tasks, dependencies, risks, and deliverables and communicate status updates to project teams and leadership

  • Support production readiness activities, implementation coordination, and post-go-live stabilization efforts

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups

  • Identify opportunities to improve interoperability processes, workflow efficiency, and integration reliability

  • Maintain documentation related to integrations, workflows, testing activities, and operational procedures

  • Ensure solutions align with organizational standards, compliance requirements, and patient care objectives

Requirements

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required in Information Technology, Business, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field required. In lieu of bachelors degree will accept 9 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience: 3 years required experience in healthcare IT or integration-focused business analysis. Demonstrated experience supporting HL7-based healthcare integrations. Experience working in Agile delivery environments.

  • Additional Skills (required):

  • Foundational knowledge of HL7 v2 messaging concepts and healthcare interoperability standards

  • Understanding of healthcare workflows, patient movement, clinical documentation, and operational processes

  • Ability to gather, analyze, and document business and technical requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively with operational, clinical, and technical stakeholders

  • Experience documenting workflows, process maps, and functional specifications

  • Ability to support testing activities including SIT and UAT validation

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools

  • Additional Skills (preferred):
  • Familiarity with FHIR concepts and API integrations

  • Exposure to healthcare interface engines and integration platforms

  • Experience supporting Epic or other EMR platforms
