Job description

  • Oversee core IT operations to ensure continuity of existing systems

  • Work closely with non-technical stakeholders to translate business needs into practical solutions

  • Introduce and manage AI-assisted development approaches where appropriate

  • Ensure appropriate governance, documentation and change control - particularly in a regulated environment

  • Offer praise for high performance freely, build positive relationships with team members, peers and directors

  • Input into, create and implement company and department action plans that seek to improve employee engagement and retention

  • Effectively manage your department budget, ensuring you meet agreed budgeted amounts, seek authorisation when required and gain value for spend

  • Where needed and with the relevant director support, manage formal employee processes: disciplinary / grievance / absence / recruitment / annual leave approval / employee review, o Polyglot - Python plus a typed language (TypeScript or Go); language flexibility matters more than any specific combination

o ERP or NetSuite integration experience - useful given how central NetSuite is to the delivery work, but learnable with solid API experience elsewhere

o M365 administration -2 other IT Engineers cover the day-to-day, but familiarity helps with supplier management and system oversight

o Observability and security posture experience - the instinct matters more than the specific tooling

o Vendor and supplier management - liaising with third-party consultants and software providers is part of the role

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driving License license?, Do you have experience in TypeScript?, Experience in software engineering with clear ownership of delivered systems

  • Strong full-stack capability, with confidence making architectural decisions across front and back end

  • Experience leading delivery (not just contributing) through to completion with appropriate documentation

  • Experience working with or evaluating AI development tools

o Full stack - comfortable making architectural decisions across front and backend

o Testing-first instincts - has lived in a codebase without adequate coverage and won't repeat it

o Has owned a CI/CD pipeline end-to-end, not just used one

o Can communicate a technical decision clearly to a non-technical audience

o Building with AI tooling and has thought critically about where it helps and where it quietly causes problems

o Comfortable managing a small team with mixed profiles - a specialist and a generalist

o Project ownership experience - has driven a system delivery (not just contributed to one) through to completion with appropriate documentation

o Change control discipline - understands why it exists, especially in a regulated environment, and can implement it without it becoming a bureaucratic bloat
