Job description

The Field Engineer role represent the most recognisable, client-facing members of the team and are responsible for providing on-site technical support, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT infrastructure for multiple client organizations.

Field Engineers also performs any scheduled site visits as well as providing remote support when required. They are also responsible for reviewing the work completed by all other teams to best manage their time and the client's expectations.

Responsibilities and Duties

On-site Technical Support

  • Provide on-site IT support for client environments including desktops, laptops, and printers.

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues

  • Respond to service tickets and escalations from the helpdesk

Infrastructure Deployment

  • Install and configure servers, workstations, networking equipment and security appliances

  • Perform site installations, upgrades, and system migrations

  • Deploy Wi-Fi networks, switches, routers, and firewalls (SonicWall)

Network & Systems Maintenance

  • Maintain LAN/WAN connectivity and troubleshoot network performance issues.

  • Perform patching, firmware updates, and preventive maintenance.

  • Monitor system health and resolve issues before they impact clients, on agreed customer SLAs.

Client Support & Communication

  • Act as the technical point of contact during on-site visits.

  • Explain technical issues and solutions in clear, non-technical language.

  • Maintain strong client relationships and deliver excellent customer service.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Document site configurations, network diagrams, and troubleshooting steps.

  • Update ticketing system and service records.

Undertake any other duties as requested by the Operations Director or Managing Partners.

On call when required

Requirements

Knowledge and understanding of IT infrastructure and network solutions.

Ability to engage meaningfully with all stakeholders.

Solid technical background with an ability to give instructions to a non-technical audience.

Great organisation and problem-solving skills

Confidence to build relationships and deal with variety of situation.

Comfortable supporting a wide variety of technology, such as:

  • Operating systems

  • Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPN configuration; router and switch configuration, servers

  • Cloud platforms: Microsoft 365, Azure

  • Infrastructure: Active Directory, Group Policy, Virtualization (Hyper-V & VMware), backup solutions

Should be flexible working as 1st line/2nd Line engineer.

Good Customer Service skills.

Time management and multitasking skills.
