Job description
The Licensed Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning electrical systems on mission-critical data center construction projects throughout Wisconsin. This role performs electrical work in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), Wisconsin electrical regulations, project specifications, and company safety standards.
Working under the direction of the Electrical Foreman or General Foreman, the Journeyman Electrician installs complex electrical infrastructure supporting high-availability data centers, including medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, branch power, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and experienced in commercial, industrial, or mission-critical electrical construction.
Primary Responsibilities
Electrical Installation:
Install and terminate electrical systems including:
- Medium-voltage raceways and cable
- Underground electrical duct banks
- Transformers
- Metal-clad switchgear
- Switchboards
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems
- Standby generator systems
- Bus duct and busway systems
- Panelboards
- Distribution equipment
- Cable tray systems
- Grounding and bonding systems
- Lighting systems
- Branch power
- Fire alarm systems
- Building Automation System (BAS) wiring
- Security and access control wiring
- Structured cabling pathways, * Flexible conduit
- Cable tray
- Underground conduit systems
Perform field measurements and fabricate conduit runs with minimal waste while maintaining professional workmanship.
Wire Pulling & Terminations:
- Pull feeders and branch circuits.
- Install medium- and low-voltage conductors.
- Terminate switchgear, transformers, panelboards, UPS equipment, generators, and electrical equipment.
- Perform torque verification according to manufacturer specifications.
- Label conductors and equipment per project standards.
Equipment Installation:
Install and assist with startup of:
- Electrical rooms
- Generator plants
- UPS rooms
- Battery systems
- Switchgear lineups
- Busway systems
- PDUs
- Remote Power Panels (RPPs)
- Transformers
- Motorized equipment
Coordinate equipment setting with rigging crews and other trades.
Testing & Commissioning Support
Assist commissioning teams with:
- Continuity testing
- Insulation resistance (Megger) testing
- Ground resistance testing
- Phase rotation verification
- Equipment checkout
- Functional testing
- Startup support
- Punch list completion
Support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) activities.
Blueprint & Documentation:
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and specifications.
- Review shop drawings and installation details.
- Report discrepancies before installation.
- Complete daily work reports and quality documentation.
- Maintain accurate as-built markups when required.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Follow OSHA regulations and Wisconsin safety requirements.
- Participate in daily job hazard analyses (JHAs) and toolbox talks.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
- Support a zero-incident safety culture.
Quality Expectations:
- Install work to NEC, Wisconsin code, and project specifications.
- Maintain high workmanship standards.
- Perform self-quality inspections before requesting final inspection.
- Protect installed work from damage.
- Complete punch list items promptly.
Teamwork:
- Coordinate work with other electricians and apprentices.
- Communicate effectively with foremen, superintendents, inspectors, and other trades.
- Mentor apprentices in safe work practices and proper installation techniques.
- Support project productivity while maintaining quality and safety.
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have a valid Scissor Lift Certification certification?, Do you have experience in Troubleshooting electrical systems?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * Current Wisconsin Journeyman Electrician License (or ability to obtain reciprocity if applicable).
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship program.
- 4-6+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience.
