On some occasions, this position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 7:30 am to 4:30 pm workday, or beyond a 40-hour work week.
What You Will Do:

Provide technical leadership through all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements capture, system design and modeling, integrating with hardware and software components, system validation and verification

Coach, review, and delegate work to lower-level system engineers.

Coordinate and work with other domains and departments to realize a functional system.

Identify and implement process, system, and product improvements to enhance performance and improve efficiency

Work with external customers to document operational scenarios, develop system requirements, define system interfaces, and perform system validation testing.

Work with other engineers to document derived requirements, define internal system interfaces, develop system architectures, integrate system components, and perform system verification.

Develop processes in terms of templates and work instructions to ensure the team maintains desired quality.
Requirements
Collins Aerospace team is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer with a passion for avionics, a high degree of accountability and ability to thrive in an Agile team environment as a part of the Program Systems Engineering team in our Business & Regional Avionics department.
We are searching for experienced avionics engineer who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment. This role requires a technical background; the Pr. Systems Engineer will participate in all phases of the system development lifecycle. This candidate should be organized, have great communication & leadership skills, and a desire to learn and to mentor junior engineers. This role does require the ability to work regularly on-site in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The ideal candidate will have an unwavering positive attitude, be highly responsive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and strive to perform high-quality work proactively and efficiently. This person will consistently demonstrate professionalism in their interactions with all levels of the organization and will routinely go above and beyond expectations in performing their work. They will have strong project execution, leadership, and critical thinking skills., * Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- Experience with avionics or other aircraft system development and certification.
Qualifications We Prefer:

Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems

Systems Engineering experience (requirements, test, validation, & verification)

Experience with ARP4754A/B, DO-178B/C, and/or DO-297

Integration of complex systems

Experience with Agile, and use of engineering process tools such as JIRA, JAMA, and Subversion/GitHub

Possess a collaborative way of working, particularly in a matrixed environment and/or across various teams

Strong written & oral communicator and change agent; able to interface with the spectrum of individual contributors to executive leadership

Experience coaching lower-level professionals and influencing others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.

Highly motivated and a self-starter, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
