Job description
The Principal Software Engineer acts as a software architect for the AC&M R&D organization and the development lead for patient monitors used in surgical environments. They will collaborate with cross-functional resources and lead junior software developers to revise the product architecture to implement new features and deliver robust product updates to the market. They will be accountable for the software quality of the product and embrace the Medtronic Mission every day to make a positive difference in the lives of our patients and caregivers. This individual is expected to be hands-on and willing to heavily engage in design and development activities throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities:

Act as development lead for patient monitors typically used in surgical environments

Create andmaintainproduct technical documentation

Provide mentorship and guidance to junior software developers

Organize day-to-day activities of the software developers on the product team andparticipateinstandups
-
Collaborate with R&D resourceslocatedin Hyderabad, India

Participate in triage of product issues to understand the risk andimpact
-
Answer technical questions on product behavior for internal and external stakeholders

Collaborate with product owner, business analyst, and test lead to ensure alignment

Work with OS build engineer to ensure embedded operating system is configured and hardened appropriately

Collaborate with product securityengineeron secure design, threatmodelingand security deliverables

Provide estimates of level of effort for issues and new features

Collaborate with team to analyze vulnerabilitiesidentifiedby penetration testing andSBOManalysis

Set up and conduct product demos for stakeholders

Responsibilities may include thefollowingand other duties may be assigned.

Designs, develops, tests, debugs and implements operating systems components, softwaretoolsand utilities.

Determinessystems software design requirements.

Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented andmonitoredto increase efficiency.

Generates systems software engineering policies,standardsand procedures.

May work across a variety of software lifecycle activities asdeterminedby program needs.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or technically related and 7+ years of software development experience Or, Master's Degree in Engineering or technically related and 5+ years of software development experience OR PhD with 3 years of software development experience
Specialized Skills or Experience:

Experience with acting as a software architect and software development lead

Experience with building desktop applications in C#, .NET, andUI frameworks such asWPF

Experience with kiosk mode applications and system hardening

Ability to work in a team-oriented environment

Experience with applying Agilemethodologyto software development

Ability to communicate and align with Test, Regulatory, Quality, and other cross functions.

Superb written and oral communication skills

Experience communicating with external stakeholders, such as auditors and customers

Experience with SAST tools such as SonarQube
-
Experience with memory and performance profiling
Nice to Have:

Knowledge of medical device security and product development standards

Experience with embedded medical devices
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$152,800.00 - $229,200.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
