The CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.) is seeking a hands-on Senior Data Platform Architect to architect the future of enterprise analytics within the Information Technology group at the California Association of REALTORS®. You will design, build, and operate the Association's data lake and analytics data platform as a trusted, secure, and scalable enterprise asset.
The role owns data architecture, modeling standards, ingestion patterns, and governance practices that enable reporting, analytics, and future AI use cases. In addition to data lake ownership, this role is accountable for the reliability, security, and performance of the Association's production database environments. The position will report to the Application Development Manager and partner closely with Application Development, IT Operations, Research, and business stakeholders to ensure that data is accurate, accessible, and decision ready., Ingestion and Data Engineering
- Design, build, and operate ingestion and ELT ETL pipelines from SQL Server, SaaS platforms, and file-based sources
- Implement scheduling, retries, error handling, and operational logging using approved tooling
- Partner with developers and analysts to onboard new datasets and evolve existing ones
Database Administration and Operations
- Own and administer production SQL Server environments including security, backup and recovery, monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning
- Enforce least privilege access, auditing, encryption, and retention policies across databases and data platforms
- Continuously monitor and tune performance across databases and data pipelines to meet business expectations
- Automate routine operational tasks and maintain clear runbooks and documentation
Data Platform and Lake Architecture
- Design and own the data lake architecture including raw, curated, and consumption layers
- Define and maintain canonical data models for members, transactions, products, engagement, and finance
- Establish, maintain, and govern standards for data organization, naming, partitioning, retention, and lifecycle management, including ongoing stewardship to ensure standards are consistently applied, periodically reviewed, and evolved as platform, regulatory, and business needs change.
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and documentation suitable for leadership and enterprise reporting
- Enable downstream analytics, reporting, and self-service use cases
Governance, Security, and Reliability
- Apply data governance fundamentals including access controls, retention, and compliant use of data
- Support audits and reviews through clear documentation and traceability
- Implement monitoring and alerting for database and data pipeline health
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis related to data platforms
Collaboration and Enablement
- Partner with Application Development, IT Operations, Research, and business stakeholders
- Translate business questions into durable data structures and models
- Provide guidance and standards that reduce one off reporting and manual extract
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field required, * 7 plus years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, analytics platforms, or database administration
- Strong hands-on experience administering production SQL Server environments including security, backup restore, HA DR, monitoring, and performance tuning
- Strong SQL and data modeling experience for analytics and reporting use cases
- Experience designing and operating data lake or data platform workloads
- Hands on experience with ingestion and ETL and ELT pipelines including scheduling and operational support
- Strong understanding of database design, data warehousing concepts, and analytics modeling techniques
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex data and system issues
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with Microsoft Azure data services including Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse
- Familiarity with Lakehouse or modern analytics architectures
- Experience supporting BI tools such as Power BI
- Experience in regulated or complex enterprise environments
- Experience in real estate, membership-based organizations, or nonprofit environments, * Production SQL Server administration including installation, configuration, patching, and capacity planning
- Backup and recovery management and HA DR planning
- Security administration including RBAC, auditing, encryption, and access reviews
- Performance tuning and troubleshooting across databases and data workloads
- Data lake and data platform operations including ingestion patterns and data organization standards
- ETL ELT pipeline operations including retries, error handling, and operational logging
- Automation and scripting using T SQL, PowerShell, SQL Server Agent, or orchestration tools
- Clear documentation, runbook discipline, and cross team communication
