Job description
The Senior UI Designer at Starbreeze shapes the visual design and interaction language of our player-facing interfaces, ensuring every screen, flow and UI system feels intuitive, polished and true to the game's creative direction. Sitting at the intersection of design thinking and visual craft, you take ownership of UI design from concept through to implementation - bringing a strong design sensibility while maintaining a solid grounding in UI art and production realities. The role is based in Stockholm and we work from the office 5 days a week., * Own the UI design process for assigned game systems and features end-to-end, from initial concept, wireframing and interaction design through to final visual design and implementation support
- Define and maintain UI design systems, component libraries and interaction guidelines that ensure visual consistency and design coherence across the project
- Collaborate closely with UX designers, UI artists and engineers to ensure interfaces are visually compelling, interaction-sound and seamlessly integrated into the game experience
- Develop UI concepts, mood boards and style explorations that align with and reinforce the game's artistic direction, contributing a strong visual design perspective to the creative process
- Create and maintain UI animations, transitions and micro-interactions that enhance usability and contribute to a polished, responsive player experience
- Conduct and apply player research, usability testing and playtesting insights to evaluate and iterate on interface and interaction design decisions
- Define and maintain UI design guidelines and visual standards, ensuring consistency and scalability across the project
- Troubleshoot UI design and implementation issues, advocating for design quality and player-centred thinking across disciplines
- Mentor and support less experienced UI designers and artists, sharing knowledge of design principles, visual craft and production workflows
Requirements
- Significant years of experience as a UI Designer in the games industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing shipped titles and high-quality UI design work across both interaction design and visual execution
- Strong proficiency in design tools such as Figma or Adobe XD, combined with solid working knowledge of Unreal Engine including UMG and UI animation tools
- Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture and player-centred design principles, with strong visual design skills across typography, iconography, layout and composition
- Good understanding of game pipelines and experience collaborating cross-disciplinarily with UX, art and engineering teams
- Experience with live service or GaaS titles is a plus
