Job description

The Senior Network Engineer ?serves as the regional technical lead for all LAN/WLAN activities in EUCOM, including high-level design, complex troubleshooting, security hardening, and coordination with MTF leadership, host base communications, and other CSPs/GSPs.

  • Serve as the senior LAN/WLAN engineer and primary regional point of contact for network issues, configuration management, addressing, multi-protocol routing, and network management across all DHA-managed European MTFs and GSUs.
  • Ensure that LAN/WLAN/WAN infrastructure adequately supports the MHS mission in Europe by providing high-level installation, configuration, documentation, management, and troubleshooting of network communication equipment at hospitals, clinics, and remote sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network and routing issues across all OSI layers using tools such as SolarWinds, Armis, and Ansible; interpret MIBs and MRTG-type statistics to design and implement performance optimization and capacity planning measures.
  • Design, implement, and maintain LAN/WLAN/WAN security barrier systems (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS) that prevent unauthorized access to MTF systems and comply with DoD, DHA, and European Regional Command security objectives and policies.
  • Establish and enforce LAN/WLAN/WAN procedures and standards to ensure compliance with DoD directives, DHA policies, EUCOM theater guidance, and host-nation constraints where applicable.
  • Lead planning and execution of network modernization efforts, Med-COI migrations, and infrastructure refreshes across European sites, including SIP development, Limited Upgrade Plans, cutover coordination, and ?as-built? documentation, while minimizing clinical disruption.
  • Coordinate closely with Government staff, base communications squadrons, and other contractors to resolve cross-boundary LAN/WAN issues, support PPSM and ATO requirements, and ensure alignment with the EITSI ecosystem.
  • Provide written technical recommendations and standards updates through collaboration with the NetMOD Network Standards Team; contribute to enterprise policies and procedures that reflect best practices and accommodate European-specific requirements.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations, provide remote escalation support for Critical and High incidents, and coordinate on-site response and communication with MTF leadership and NMB as necessary to meet or exceed PRS availability and incident response targets.
  • Mentor and oversee Referral Network Engineers, Network Engineer Associates, Network Specialists, and Systems & Network Specialist (Sembach) in the region to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery across all European NES work.
