ACT is undergoing a significant digital and data transformation programme, modernising how data is structured, governed, trusted and used across the organisation.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to help build the foundations of our future data platform. You will work across multiple operational systems, legacy databases, reporting structures and integrations to design and deliver scalable, trusted and future-ready data solutions.
Working closely with the Head of Digital Transformation and stakeholders across the organisation, you will play a key role in improving data quality, enabling better decision-making, and supporting the transition from fragmented legacy systems to a modern, integrated data environment.
This is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges, working through ambiguity, and shaping the future of data architecture, reporting and AI readiness within a growing organisation.
What you'll do:
- Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines, integrations and ETL/ELT processes
- Develop modern data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory or equivalent tools
- Support the development of ACT's future data platform, including lakehouse, warehouse and semantic models
- Design and maintain data models for reporting and analytics
- Analyse and modernise legacy databases and data processes
- Improve data quality, governance, documentation and accessibility
- Support trusted reporting solutions using tools such as Power BI
- Contribute to AI readiness and wider digital transformation initiatives
Requirements
ACT is committed to promoting the Welsh language for both staff and learners and, whilst not essential, the ability to speak Welsh is welcomed.
What we need from you:
- Proven experience building data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes and integrations
- Strong SQL and database development experience, including complex relational and legacy environments
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Databricks or Synapse
- Strong data modelling and problem-solving skills
- Experience improving data quality, governance and reporting capability
- Experience working with Power BI or similar BI tools
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Understanding of data architecture, governance and security principles
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical delivery
- Right to work in the UK required - we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
